the idea of antimatter starships was great - slow starship with a slow big hitting gun, something like long range artillery. there was also a quick, strong, fast but low range bomer starship and those two types works great together. they were very different and that makes fun in game. I was very dissappointed with recent changes.

That couldn't hit most of the things you would want to shoot at with a big hitting gun.

I haven't gotten to try the Plasma ships yet but they don't sound attractive at all. I want a big gun-ship. Just something that's damn slow, doesn't shoot that often but when it does it does hella lot of damage (with AoE of without).

I think the antimatter ships were good, but some artillery kind of ship would be even better to fill it's role. I think everybody would want a ship that you just drag out of the wormhole and it shoots every 10 seconds or so with great range and damage but has to be protected. Also the sound effect has to have balls :D

Still big props to the devs for still releasing patches and changes to this game.

Just wanting to make sure: you do realize the size of the gun didn't change at all, right?  Does the same primary damage, and the splash effect was added on top of that.

But Plasma? Nooo. It's not about the damage itself. Plasma is just lame. And the ship needs to be slower :D

Or the Plasma Siege Cannons you can get for the spire capital ships.  Or Plasma Torpedoes from some sci-fi thing or another.  Etc :)

Sidearms? Not in my experience, but maybe it only happens when you try to talk to them. :P

I still haven't tried the new siege-plas-naughts yet, I spent all last night fiddling around with golems and then save-scumming when I realized that some AI ships actually are smart enough to focus fire my botnet and ignore all the zombies. Ouch.

I'm wonder if this FF-AOE thing has caused anyone trouble when they come up against the AI using one of these? Humans are a lot more likely to have fragile important things under force fields than the AI is. Is that causing anyone any trouble so far?

Starships and guardians was enough as it was implemented in game. Several of them - and enemy starship can not reach invading fleet which capture system. I thought they were too good. Just take them and Laser marks, Flaks, etc do not approuch player's fleet. Fleet specialization was good feature of the game. Fighter good vs bombers, bombers vs frigates, frigates vs fighters, that thing worked great and fun. The same with antimatter straships. They were great vs others starships and guardians, but can not do anything against others. Some people were complaing, but those who enjoyed this balance played quietly without need to spend time defending this feature on the game forum. I have played some time MMO RPG games. Whiners destroyes them. Developers implement balance changes based who whine the most.  Developers should not listen to whiners. They shall play the game and see how what works. There are lot of players, some prefer using one type of ships, some others. If several active forum members do not like one type of the ship that does not mean that this type is bad and shall be destroyed.

Developers should not listen to whiners.
And I don't (generally).  In this case I was listening to feedback from several players who have repeatedly demonstrated their ability and willingness to provide rational and useful feedback.  Over the course of months their feedback on this unit remained more or less the same: they didn't like it.  If I didn't listen to feedback of that kind, I'd basically listen to none at all :)

I didn't think Antimatter were able to hit Guardians?  I'm pretty sure they could hit a grand total of 8ish units.  Basically anything with "starship" as part of its name and that was it.  But I may be thinking of a previous incarnation.  But I distinctly remembering looking on the references tab and checking and they showed up dealing damage to a tiny set of units.

But it's a new ship basically that replaces the old one. I had no beef with the antimatter starship.

Tbh I'm not THAT bothered with the new ship, I still think this game is awesome and am going to continue playing it. I just don't think a plasma starship fits for a role of "Hey there's big forcefield, bring in the plasmas".

It's too exotic for a starter starship that you get without any unlocks imo.

For what it's worth, I would never have unlocked higher tiers of the older siege/antimatter starships anyway. "5K and 7K? No..."

Anyway, I haven't voted yet.

...some AI ships actually are smart enough to focus fire my botnet and ignore all the zombies. Ouch.
That problem used to persist to a lesser degree for botnets in combination with the non-paralysing black-widows at 100 tractors. ;) When get you one of each, keep them together.

Well after reverting to an autosave (yes yes I'm lame for save scumming, shoot me!) a wave came in on a world where I had my hive golem, which I thought should be easy. And it would have been, if I had actually remembered to use the hive golem, or even to take it off low power mode. Instead I just left it in the ship pile near the wormhole and guess what the wave decided to focus fire? Yeah at that point I decided it was time to stop for the night...
