Poll: AI War Game Lore?

It has come to my attention that there may be some desire for some game lore, these are some excerpts from the suggestions forum attempting to provide some context to some of the game's technologies;

...As the human civil war progressed, the factions became increasingly desperate to stem the immense losses of life sustained aboard their warships. In response to this, Quantum Non-Local Command (QNLC) technology was developed. QNLC modules made use of the quantum entanglement principle to allow highly trained crews to operate vessels from the relative safety of the planetary command hubs, without fear that their communications would be intercepted or jammed...

...the highly sophisticated combat AIs quickly made human crews obsolete. The AIs were allowed to conduct military campaigns against the other factions with an ever increasing level of independence. Soon, all but the highest echelons of military commanders were legally subordinate to the AIs, which had direct control of almost all military assets through the QNLC technology...

...the newly developed 'parasitic' weaponry allowed the QNLC modules aboard vessels to be forcibly recalibrated to link with the attacking faction's own Quantum Command Hubs, effectively allowing them to take control of the ship. Performing this recalibration requires direct physical contact with the QNLC module, specialized 'parasitic' shells were developed for...

If you like the above, and there's player demand for a more complete story, I'll definitely consider writing one. :)

Note: The above all occur before the AIs turn on humanity.

Given that game reality (such that it is) is currently warping substantially, maybe it would be better to wait until things have stabilised a bit before making up fluff about them?

After all there's not much point making up an oddseyian epic that Ship X (to pick a completely random letter) is the best in the univerise, the day before His X-ness rebalances the game and manages to nerf it to back to being able to be easily defeated by a Mark III scout.

Maybe x4000 can give us a quick overlook into how many increments he expects to release before hitting 2.0 ? Personally i wouldn't be too sad if the next increments just include additions to ai types/unit types and no new such drastic gameplay changes as in 1.201

- The lore would best be made between 2.0 and Expansion , where we hopefully have at least 2-3 months of stability (ie, no new additions) But i can't really say that for sure, x4000 probably knows it best ,p

Also, if there is the need or demand, i'd be willing to help with the lore and translating parts of the wiki into german (though i would need the "dewbs tutorial for newbs" into wiki first.)

I can also translate parts of the wiki now if there is demand - But it won't be all at once and as i said, i'd need a guiding hand at first.

I like the idea of lore, but I don't like this "QNLC" thing. Unless, of course, the player is NOT using it, but using human crews instead. I feel that it makes the fight that much more important feeling if its humans crewing the ships. So many of the last few humans in the galaxy lose their lives in our massive fleet battles. Even if every human ship kills 100 AI ships, in the end, its a loss.

Thats how I want to feel abouti t anyways  ;)

Personally, I voted 'I'm indifferent'. Since, based on this relatively small sample, it's likely that more than 50% of players aren't interested in lore, and given that it wouldn't enhance the game in any fundamental way anyway, I'm not going to write any more.

I voted indifferent as well. It's not that I don't appreciate the existing lore or the attention to consistency within the game, but personally I wouldn't find additional lore a significant contributing factor to my enjoyment of the game. I like the world that has been created for the game to exist in, and the rest I'm perfectly happy to make up for myself as I play :)

Well, since its AI, whats wrong with writing it now? We can just assume, since its ai, and is self aware, it could just be "maniplulating" its code, causing the changes, like evolution, (only at a much faster rate) and that would fit well with the constant changes and morphing of the game.  As for the human side, they are constantly changing to meet the changes from the AI. It works well, just get creative with it. :D

Unless my math fails 50% are for it and only 5% against it 45% indifferent (so they are the "no oppinion" crowd)

Which would make this a pretty clear total majority vote for yes ^^

But by the way, i agree that we shall wait for a phase of version stability before tackling lore either way.

;D Gotta say i find the resistance to a better story/lore quite funny actually ;)
- A good lore would allow decent AAR's (After Action Reports) and better battle reports

Granted, this forum has no AAR section yet, but once stats/achievements/ranks come then hopefully some people will share their battle reports with some writing as well... The Scope of AI War makes it obvious that a big 8 player 120 planet coop game might well be something worth reading ;p
