Planetary Subcommander on the Wiki
« on: March 01, 2015, 08:15:33 am »
I just had an idea (posted on mantis) and then I asked myself: is there a list of planetary subcommanders on the wiki? I only found examples here but no full list.
I heard that the wiki is now open for user's editing, but I don't have the knoledge to fill in this particular topic. Anyone geared for such mission?

I think this list is still correct, though it may not be 100% complete.  I just don't remember any others off the top of my head.

Bunkerer  -  Command Station and all guardposts (except Wormhole) way off to the side of a system, away from wormholes.  Lots of Spire Shield and combat GPs.
Lobber  -  Focuses on long-range Guardposts.  Sniper, Implosion, and Plasma usually.
Obstructionist  -  Puts Spire Shield Guardposts over the wormholes - You can get in, but not out.
Rude Gesture  -  Uses Spire Shield and a large number of Counterattack posts in a cluster around the Command Station.
Knife Fighter  -  Puts all the guardposts within attack range of the wormholes, leading to instant combat.  Can be very brutal.
Paranoid  -  Uses lots (6-12) Command Station Shield Guard Posts, scattered in a circle around the outside of a system.

Then the special Command Stations used by Subcommanders:
Missile
Laser
Needler
MLRS
Photon Lance
Troop Accelerator
Munitions Booster
Translocator
Rail Cannon
Spider
Gravity
Tachyon

Thanks! Sounds ready to be posted on the wiki!
Unfortunately I was unable to find a way to add a new page.

I've been loading up 120 planet test games a lot and using debug mode.

I haven't seen any subcommanders other than those. (Honestly, they're not even that common. The vast majority of planets were 'normal'.)

Some of the guard posts used by Subcommanders are not in the Ships and Structures section of the Wiki, by the way. Not sure which ones, but definitely Implosion Guard Posts.

Done!

But a lot of work is still required. Special guard posts still need to be listed and linked to individual pages (do they have individual pages?), and maybe personalities deserve a table (like this very good one) instead of a list.

... and language correction (my english is quite unreliable).

I'm not sure if on their own there's enough to need a full table. (There's not a lot of data there)

On the other hand, if we can get a good idea as to the preferred guardposts and whatnot, there's a lot of potential for information.

That was the main idea. I wish to create a table with :
- subcommander's name
- station's type (does a subcom always pick the same, or does it pick one from a pool of available stations?)
- available special guardposts
- description (the one given by Toranth seems perfect).

EDIT:
Table is up, data is needed.

Hey, I just found some subcommanders around my home on my new game. I don't know which ones they are. Can someone help me sort'em out?

On Boyedark (totally random name), there is a munition boosting command station with 1 disassembler, 1 spire shield and 1 widow (plus 1 missile, 1 special forces and some tachyon sentries).

On Tacusuo, there is a lance command station with 1 munition boosting (plus 1 MLRS, 2 needlers, 1 special forces and some tachyon sentries). Only one special guard post ? How does the quantity of special GP is determined ? Is there a point system ? like the subcom has X points and can buy special GPs that have costs ? Why do I think out and loud ? Can't I just shut up when I'm wondering ? And why do I still put spaces before question marks ?

Unfortunately, there's no relationship between Subcommander type and the special Command Station used.  And aside from the Core Guardposts and Brutal Core Guardposts, there is no such thing as a special guardpost.  Stuff like Munition Booster Guardposts are just more uncommon, but as far as I know they are not treated as special.  At the same time, Tachyons are technically Guardians, not Guardposts (they cannot be a reinforcement target).  At the same time, Special Forces Guardposts are seeded separately from normal ones, so their presence/absence is independent of the rest of the system.

If you want to 'cheat' a little bit, you can press F3 to toggle into/out of a debug-like mode that gives more information about the system you are viewing.  Part of that information is the name of the Subcommander type.
From your description, I'd guess not Paranoid, Lobber, or Obstructionist for your two systems.  But the differences between the other types relies mostly on where the Guardposts are located.
Knife Fighter will tend to form straight lines of Guardposts with each Guardpost just in range of a wormhole entrance.
Bunkerer and Rude Gesture are both clustered near the edge of the system, but the Rude Gesture has a bunch of Counterattack guardposts around it.  If Counterattack posts are not enabled, it can be difficult to tell the two types apart.

Does Rude Gesture even show up without counterattack posts, Toranth?

Thank you for the F3, Toranth.
So, Tacusuo was Knife Fighter, and was Obstructionist.

So you say there is no relationship between SubCom and ComSta or GuardPosts. How sad: my pretty little table is useless. Maybe if I change "available" by "probable" it could do it, right? Right???  :'( (;D)

On another side, I found no page on the wiki about special ComSta. Does someone know where they are, if they exist at all?

I haven't double-checked, but I seem to remember encountering them.  It's just very similar to Bunkerer.

Yeah, change "Rare Guard Posts" to "Favorite Guard Posts" or something.  There is something of a relationship, it just isn't (usually?) all that fixed.
