I voted not really caring. I've never started with more than one homeworld, although I admit I've been tempted.
That's probably the general sentiment. Most people never consider doing it because they consider it cheating. That's gotta say something for how broken (I think) it is.

I wouldn't say it's cheating, it's just different.

There is nothing wrong with taking more than one starting planet if that's the kind of game you want to play. Till recently I played that way all the time since I disliked waiting for things to build and I generally like to conquer everything. It's a valid feature but I agree that it could use some adjustments. I'm leaning towards single planet games now myself for hardware issues and content (Fallen Spire) reasons, but I'd hate to see this option disappear.

With the way bonus ships are shaping up, I'm not sure I'd want to play multi-HW because defending vs a bunch of souped up bonus ships with a reduced ship cap sounds terrifying. Part of the reason multi-HW defense worked out great was because 80-90% of the ships were terrible and couldn't do much of anything besides die to turrets. Aside from that, capping ARS are starting to sound like a good way to overall speed up the game, core shields or no, without having to take more HW for ship cap on triangles or the, previously, few good bonus ship types.
