Parasites may have become a little overpowered...
« on: December 07, 2010, 10:12:48 am »
Watch as my entire army of MKII Bombers, Fighers, Frigates, and 2 MK1 Riot Control Starships is vaporized within seconds by a large group of MK1 Parasites (and worse, converted!).

I'm not sure if this was the intended effect, but I have no idea how the player is supposed to combat something like this.

The battle occurs on the planet to the right of my Homeworld, Chadoso.

Also, please ignore the Commander name, one of my friends was trying to play a practical joke on me.  ::)

Save attached, discuss.

edit:  Ah okay, Parasites were supposed to have an attack of 8,000, but instead have an attack of 80,000!  (It's OVER 9000!!!!!!!)

Parasites have now become Politician, Converter of Worlds.

Well, when word came down about the 50% damage to reclaim rule, the Parasite union decided to take the gloves off, you see ;)

But yea, 80k sounds a tad on the high side for a single shot, considering the dps of an entire cap of mkI fighters is in the neighborhood of 75k.

Wandering zeros are a dangerous thing!

Not anymore they aren't, they are happily singing the praises of their reclaiming masters as they fetch nice shiny stones from those comfortable mine tunnels ;)

I like that the solution to OP leeches and parasites was... extra-OP parasites!

Yea, they weren't about to take that nerf sitting down.  "Hey, Bob, they're gonna insist we do at least 50% of the damage to work now!"  "I'll show them 50% damage!"

Rofl! I'm SO glad you caught this before I upgraded. We're currently playing against a Leeching Parasite that seems to have a fetish of launching dual 800+ Parasite waves on us. I'm not sure I want to endure that with these Parasites xD

Anyway, thanks for letting us know; for 4.047:

* Trying to make parasites not slaughter everything with their newfound dps:
** Base Attack power from 40,000*mk => 4,000*mk.
** Ship Cap Multiplier from 1.5 => 0.5.

This brings it down to roughly 2/3rds the cap-dps of the fighter line, which sounds about right with their reclamation abilities.  Further tuning can be made, of course :)

Hmm, not sure how I feel about that. Fighters aren't DPS monsters to begin with and this might make Parasites unable to do sufficient damage to reclaim anything unless they flop around in a solo blob.

Fighters currently have one of the better dps-at-cap values, actually, since that whole 5x base damage, 1/5 previous bonuses thing.  Parasites have similar bonuses, and in general having a decent dps-vs-everything is important because otherwise they'll not be able to effectively reclaim stuff they don't have bonuses against.

Anyway, if it's off, we can keep changing things.

CAUGHT THIS?  Oh no, that would imply that it was a subtle discovery.  They caught me like a fleet of the Borg, there was no way I could have missed that :D

You're so glad I was CONVERTED first :P

*Robotic Voice* Parasites are fine, do not change them, we will find you.  Convert, or die.

Are there any AI Types that don't use Parasites at all?  I really wanted to play 1 today.

I think you can just disable reclamators entirely.

Unless, of course, you're wanting this to be an asymmetric thing ;D
