Why am I getting attacks HERE?
« on: October 21, 2014, 11:52:00 pm »
I have been playing my first serious Beginner2 tutorial game, and taking a long slow time at it.  I've had a whipping boy planet for most of that, but recently one of my other border worlds is getting atatcks and I can't figure out why.

I have a save game a few seconds before a pair of warp attacks, and sometimes they hit my whipping boy Detunedo on the right of the map... but sometimes hit Onnotausi on the left, the attacks coming from  Fisawep.

Can anyone tell me why Fisawep is sending attacks?  No Warp Gate.  No Warp Guardian, I blew all of those up near my worlds.  yet attacks keep coming through, which is getting annoying!

Thanks!

Did you blow up ALL the warp gates adjacent to your planets? That will cause waves to show up on an AI planet as threat.

Are there any AI Eyes on adjacent planets? Those can act as warp gates also, IIRC.

Ah, I did not know AI Eyes could do that.  Thanks!

The planet next to my whipping boy world still has a Warp gate.

I'll go send my fleet to knock out that eye.  Hmm.  Nuclear Eye.  Ok, cloaked raid starships to the rescue.

Things that count as Warp Gates:
-Alarm Post
-Raid Engine (including the "One-Shot" one from the Traders)
-AI Eye
-Special Forces Alarm Post
-Warp Gate
-AI Home Command Station
-Warp relays
EDIT:
-Warp Gate Guardian
-Exo Galactic Wormhole
-Mothership

"Warp Gate (FULL - AI ONLY)" = Can send waves to all adjacent human planets and sends reinforcements to that planet.
"Warp Gate (REINFORCE - AI ONLY)" = Sends reinforcements that planet.

Open the galaxy map and press W (the default keybind) to see all  wormholes. The numbers show how many warp gates are connected to each planet. Pay attention to the red ones.

However this doesn't show planets that can be under attack from a warp relay. So open the galaxy map and click the display mode button (It can say "My Ships" for example) and select "Custom Search (Broad)". Click the new button that just appeared below and write "warp relay".
Ok apparently the warp relay isn't listed there. Probably because it's quite a new feature.

Kahuna did forget one. Exo-Galactic Wormhole acts as a warp gate, and can never be removed. There is one on every AI homeworld, and potentially every player homeworld if you have back door hacker AI activated.

"Warp Gate (REINFORCE - AI ONLY)" = Sends reinforcements to that structure on that planet.
Actually.. does this only reinforce that specific structure or all structures on that planet? Because Guard Posts don't have the "Warp Gate (REINFORCE - AI ONLY)" ability and they only reinforce themselves.

I think a Reinforcement Warp Gate is necessary for the planet to receive any reinforcements at all.  I'm not 100% clear on whether or not every structure with a Reinforcement gate will get reinforcements, but I think they do (AI Command Stations, Troop Accelerators, etc, all seem to get them).

Yes that's it. That makes sense. "Warp Gate (REINFORCE - AI ONLY)" allows the planet to get reinforcements and Guard Posts and such are the spawn points.

Curiously, I've noticed the occasional bizarre behavior with AI Reinforce gates on human-owned worlds.  For example, if you capture a planet with a Troop Accelerator or Raid Engine on it, normal cross-wormhole waves that arrive at that planet will frequently skip over their normal starting location (wormhole, outer grav well) and spawn on top of the Reinforce gate instead.

I used this to abuse the heck out of a Raid Engine for salvage one game.  It was fun until the AIP got too high.

Heh. Yeah Raid Engines can get very brutal very fast. Depends on difficulty of course. I abused Raid Engines during the early game when I wanted to expand fast and furiously. Triggered a couple of Raid Engines.. got the slavage.. and insta built defenses on a new planet with caps of Mark I and II Engineers.
I'm 6 hours in in my current game vs 10 difficulty Peacemaker/Raid Engine (as AI 1) and at one point each Raid Engine wave had like 8500 ships. You can imagine what triggering 3 Raid Engines on Mark IV planets is like. It's worse than the CPA at 6 hours. And the Raid Engines reload every 4 minutes if I remember correctly. And ships destroyed by Warheads give no salvage. I got rid of the Co-Processors so now an average Raid Engine wave has "only" about 6000-7000 ships. Something like that. AIP is 205 at the moment.

Yea, I think reinforce only warp gates can still have waves spawn "on top" of them. However, the AI cannot select a planet to be a "target" for a wave by the basis of a reinforce only warp gate alone. If that planet is still eligible for getting waves anyways (like, a full warpgate on an adjacent planet), and gets a wave that targets that planet, then the AI can still spawn that wave on top of the reinforce gate anyways.
