Regenerator Golem
« on: February 17, 2012, 12:25:15 am »
Mantis Thread: http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=5975

I am having an issue with my Regenerator Golem in my current game.  The issue is that the Golem is relegated to sitting at my homeworld doing nothing. Why? Neinzul ships. I am using Carriers/Neinzul Tigers heavily, and the Regenerator Golem lays waste to itself (and my economy) by trying to replenish them when they die.

On a side note, I did find it amusing when the Golem would regerate my Spire Maws with their contents still inside.  ;D

In a perfect world, I suppose we'd have some kind of interface that would allow us to choose which ships the regenerator brings back (as I could see an argument for how it would be nice for it to regenerate the newly buffed nanoswarm), but it would probably be better just to have it drop the neinzul as regeneration targets entirely.

Another question is, does anyone care? I rarely see anyone talk about the Regenerator.
Time to roll out another ball of death.

Goofing around with one in my Advanced Hybrid game.  They're nice.  Much cheaper to keep up to speed on.  My economy in that game is pretty sick though so take that with a grain of salt.  I throw around 19 Engi Vs and 15 Engi IIIs to wherever I need them.  I didn't run into eco problems until I had to fix my entire whipping boy, the botnet, and rebuild all 9 Raid Starships at once.  Heh.

They're very powerful to me.  Having my fleet NOT have to constantly run back to the system and deal with an attrition war is worth it no matter how expensive.  If I don't want portions of the fleet rebuilt by the Regenerator, I just don't bring 'em in with me (Gatlings are usually the ones I can't be bothered with regenerating).

I agree they shouldn't regen neinzuls, or at least you should have a checkbox or something as an option.  I'm not entirely sure I want them regenning my Fighter MK Is, but my II's and III's oh definately.  It's a tough call, not sure I have a good idea here as to how to 'fix' it.
... and then we'll have cake.

maybe the regenerator golem could have your "shipyard" interface, as if it was a stardock, and you could click the ships on/off(standard all on), so those which are "off" don't get regenerated?
Of course, there's fabricators and stuff, but i'd already be happy with just deciding which of my "main" fleet ships the golem regens.
It's pretty nice to have for deeper raids and stuff, i especially started liking the regen golem during shard retrieval. Considering in my current game i first took hold in my "sector" of the galaxy before starting the spire missions...and well, that pretty much means the shard has a LONG way to go, a good part, of course, outside my territory. Having a Regen and a Cursed Golem along for the ride really helps, first in GETTING there, then in getting back.
Other than that, i don't use them much, mostly sitting on a defensive world not seeing much action.
