Started my first 10/10 game
« on: August 02, 2014, 03:34:01 pm »
Just to see how far I can get.

2 vanilla AIs.
Auto ai progress off.
No ai options/plots enabled.
All expansions enabled, no champion.

As boring as possible, except with 2 10/10 AIs, and the expansions.

45 minutes in so far. Not dead yet. Good enough start for me.

Current plan *of course, subject to a lot of change*:

State of my homeworld:

State of first target:

Current plan will allow me to get scouts on every planet *probably anyways*.

White planets I'm not sure what to do with.
It would be nice to at least make 1 or 2 neutral to eliminate the deepstrike penalty in the area while I am still laying down warp jammers.

This is gonna be fun.

State of my homeworld:

You will die.
Still I'm interested to see how this goes. Good luck.

Inevitable death by evil AI is the only thing that comes to mind :P.

Best of Luck! :)

Thanks. And I do. Lots of it.

Thanks.

I've slowly been turtling along. Neutered one planet. Knocked 2 planets tachyon coverage out. 2 hours in.

Found a planet with a data center, a fabricator, and a sniper turret controller. Changed my course to capture that.
Before I launched an attack on it, I began optimizing my turret defenses. Knocked out 2 warp gates so waves would only spawn from Jufu and Ardarkoo.

As I was doing that, I got a nice alert:

Current state of map:

This is going to be hilarious.

That was rage inducing fun.

Still had research points left when I died too.

Ahh well. Probably will try this again later for giggles.

Congratulations, you have died :)
At least the AI was merciful and killed me while it was still relatively early.

Btw
Just as a mental exercise, try this:
Start a new game with Complete Visibility.
Pause the game as soon as it loads.
Using the Galaxy Map, put Priorities and Notes on all the systems you intend to capture, detailing how important that system is and why.

If you feel like it, you can post that, or just use it for your own sake.  It's much faster than actually playing the game out to scout everything, and more useful for learning purposes.
A good, but much longer, second phase is to then actually play out the game.  See if your plans change, and take note when something unexpected becomes important, or something you thought was important turns out not to be.
I actually do this every time I start a new game.
I do it because I play exclusively on 10/10 difficulty level and a crappy map can ruin the game or just make it annoying. And as you said for learning purposes/mental exercise. It helps me to become better at decision making and knowing what works in which situation. Nowadays my plans work basically every time though they may change a little bit during the game. But the basic idea works. Also that's how I climbed from 6/6 difficulty level to 10/10 difficulty level.
