I just got warning of a cross-planet attack while on difficulty level 5 for both AIs.  The last time I got one was when they were first put in, before they were relegated to higher difficulty levels.  Was this changed recently?

No, it has always been the case that they show up on difficulty 5 and up (or it has been since 2.0, at any rate -- for a very, very long time).   They show up less frequently on the lower difficulties, though.  And, in 2.0 and perhaps a bit before, there was a bug that was quite often preventing them from showing up at all for anyone, especially in multiplayer.  So that was probably what is making for the difference here.

That explains why we haven't seen them, then.  ;D

Any reason a planet might have two warp gates?

And if I don't have the Zenith Traders minor faction enabled in my game?

Having now gotten into the system, I see a command station-sized gap where there are no ships, directly next to the command station.  There are two shields, one on either side, and both warp gates also one on either side.  It almost looks to me like there was at one point two command stations here.

I have attached a saved game.  The system with two gates is called Deisa, and it is through the wormhole underneath control group 1.

If it's right next to an AI home planet, that's what I call an AI core planet -- it has core ships, but is not the home planet.  Those always have double warp gates (and have since the game was in beta).  I have not checked your save to be sure that is the issue, but I would bet so.  There's practically zero chance of the AI having an extra command station, because those are seeded in a way that can only possibly happen once in the game -- a branch of code that would cause double everythings on every planet if there were double command stations anywhere.  Of course, never say never, but I'm pretty sure. :)

Ah, that would be the case then.  It is right next to an AI homeworld.  Still wondering about the weird gap in the ships, though.  Ah well.  Thanks for the intel!

No problem!  As to the gap there, quite possibly there is something cloaked sitting there.  Not sure what it is, but could be a few things.  Could even be a minefield.

I just tried to pull 3.015 and it doesnt seem to be available via the in-game updater....

Edit: I installed the update by manually typing in the link to download the incremental patch.  ::)

Odd, it worked for me. It was an official update though, not a beta...

Updated in 3.016 (an official release that just came out):

- Fixed a crash bug in 3.015 (thanks HellishFiend for reporting).

- Reverted the music buffer size to a the prior smaller amount so that it will hopefully avoid any skipping on player machines that have a busy or slower hard drive.

D'oh!  That's really a shame, since what skipping my code change didn't fix, that music buffer size increase did. Doing things that usually get frequent skips had only a single one.  Could this be made into an option, by any chance?

Now I feel bad, since he reverted it after hearing my report! (This *caused* skipping on my comp, whereas there were no problems before). I don't need the music, so in the meantime if it does greater good to keep the buffer higher I think thats the best course of action.
