Graphics Glitch?

Why do some of the guardians and other units in my game show up as big colored rectangles instead of their respective ship graphics?

Upon further inspection the phenomenon only occurs with guardians.  Some of them are big colored squares instead of ship graphics.

To clarify, there is sometimes a bug in the steam version that causes image corruption.  You can download AIW on the main Arcen website here and replace the steam version in the correct folder, getting rid of the bug. 

I'm sure someone has a better explanation.

I updated from 4.021 to 4.051 Beta and it seems to have fixed the problem
