Why do my engies not automatically repair merc's?
« on: March 25, 2012, 01:39:35 am »
The pleasant side effect of unlocking the buffed Harvestors in my latest FS campaign is that of rolling in resources.

So, to use these up I have been building lots of mercs for defense. However, I have been annoyed that my engineers are not repairing my rather expensive mercs automatically. Why is this, and is there any way to fix it?

CTRLS menu.  engineers do not assist large projects, center column, lowest value.  Change to 0.  They'll fix anything then.
... and then we'll have cake.

Thanks. Somehow I missed that.

No, they aren't  :)
500 is a good value for that field if you just want to repair mercs (they are 480/s at most)

They are immune to repair, but not immune to construction assistance. ;)

Well, okay, SUPERfortresses are immune to repair, but the others aren't.  :) And the normal forts have a 417/s metal cost, so they don't get autorepaired normally (Don't know for sure though, I always play with the setting on 500 not 400)  :)

This disussion reminds me, the auto-assistance cutoff is not taking into consideration that repairing is 10x cheaper than constructing.

So those mercenaries, while may be 400/s to build at base constuction rate, only drain 40/s at base repair rate.
Fixing this would also fix all sorts of other problems, like home command stations not being auto repaired under sane auto-assist cutoffs.

However, this would make broken golems harder to control, as you repair them, not construct them. That will need to be looked at.
