noob question
« on: August 22, 2010, 01:44:03 pm »
Hey, I'm fairly new to the game, but I still feel a bit dumb for having to ask this question... but, here I go: What unit builds Force Field Generators? I wanted to put on in the planet I just took, but I can't for the life of me figure out how. I'm sure I'm gonna do a face palm once I figure it out....

Thanks

Josh

Force fields are created under the "Sup" tab from any command center or mobile builder.  The mobile varient is built from shipyards (and requires the appropriate tech.)

Well, to be honest, all FF generators are mobile - the FF bearer ship type is just much much faster :)

While you have a command center or constructor on the planet with supplies.
Press B, it will go to ether your command center or constructor.

Now go to sup tab. Its the tab 3rd tab left to right.

The forcefield generator is in the 2nd to last column left to right. Left of fortresses.

The forcefield generator can not be placed in a transport ship.

Forcefields can cross wormholes, right?

Yep - one of my favorite strategies is to send a FF through the wormhole first, pushing all the mobile enemy ships (well, all non FF ignoring ones) away from the wormhole so my fleet can follow in and mop up slightly easier.

As Fox Soul recommended, I also highly suggest you learn the "B" shortcut for command stations/mobile builders. Learning the "D" shortcut for Space Docks is also very helpful.

Soon you to will be moving around with Z+X+SHIFT+CONTROL (or is that just me? :)

May I say this with regret that I did not know the space dock had a hotkey.

Thanks to all! As I predicted, it was a real facepalm moment for me. Oh well, such is life. As for the hotkeys, I plan to learn them, once I get my printer up and running. I may use the included .pdf as a test page. ;-)
