Right now all planets are well planets?   I've heard it suggested that it might be intresting to have a few non-planet planets  mixed in to the galaxy creation.  which of the following strike your fancy?

astroid belts -use exploded planet  background, not capturable, no resources
2 (8.7%)
nebula - All ships are cloaked
5 (21.7%)
Tachyon singularity -  All cloaked ships are revealed.
4 (17.4%)
unclaimed planets - would have no resources (thats why they are unclaimed)
3 (13%)
moons - no bases can be built there, some resources,  but transfer ownership when parent planet does.
2 (8.7%)
Junkyard/ancient battlefield - resurrectable ships?  resource points with fixed income, harvest and gone?
7 (30.4%)

Non-planet sectors of space?

All this would of course be a royal pain to code...  we know that.   perhaps as an expansion?

any other thoughts?

The "nebula" effect is already in game with that cloaking device the AIs use.

Having a permanent cloaking effect on a world would be considerably annoying as well. The AI doesn't use mobile anti-cloaking things except by accident (Tachyon Fighters), so they would be sitting ducks. The human players however only really have convenient anti-cloaking in the scout starship. It's range is small enough to be just barely useful to show up mines as it is, I wouldn't want to have to scour every inch of a planet with five scout ships to find the command center to destroy. :)

lol,  most of these would have to be neutral.   just a sector of space to move through with no planets...

they also would also have a significant effect on gameplay.  I know we probably won't see them any time soon.   Fun to think about though...

I'm actually against the idea.  Concerned with how this would affect the AI (negatively?), which is quite impressive today.
