The reprocessor suffers from "killing blow" problems.
If it hits the target it doesn't matter which other ship actually kills it, if that's what you mean.

@pheonix89: Mobile regenerator idea looks cool, but ability to produce any mk1-3 youngling? I think that will make the youngling unlocks useless...
Um, it only builds ones you already have unlocked, hence why it has its own type for if you don't have any.

If I waited to add more until you were happy with their balance, there would probably never be more bonus ship types :)

They're not really all that out of whack now.  Some are awesome, some are not so great, and some are just fine.  Certainly room for refinement, but nowhere near the level where it makes sense to block an expansion during a time that works development-wise.

Of course your opinion will differ from mine on that.  Feel free to round up a poll on "what bonus types are complete utter trash not worth the 1s and 0s they're made of?" and/or "what units are so completely OP you disable their expansion to avoid seeing them in AI hands?".  It would be entertaining (and perhaps helpful).

Agreed...sort of.

Adding new stuff is great and all, but don't forget that the balance is still a bit "unpolished" from the LotS and AS additions. We getting close to a good state, so it would be sad to see that thrown all out of wack by adding a ton of stuff that would take too long to balance before the release date.

IMO, it's not out of wack enough such that we need to "freeze" the types availible until balancing, but it is a bit "unpolished" enough such that too many additions will throw the balance even more out of wack than you could probably deal with before release.

In fact, I spoke about this before:

On a more serious note, I hope this expansion focuses more on new mechanics than new units. The new units already introduced in Light of the Spire and Ancient Shadows (woo, spelled "ancient" correctly first time this time :D) are still in need of balance polish. Introducing too many new units would just "backpedal" the balance work even more.

Not saying I don't want new units; those are cool and all. But I feel that this shouldn't be the focus of this expansion, so balance isn't disrupted even more than the relatively recently added stuff already has. Then, time spent on keeping things balanced and "polished" can be more productive.

The main reason I'm planning on 5 or 6 bonus types for this expansion rather than 9 or 10 is to keep the impact on the balance workload smaller.

Not really.  I'm quite happy to pack a lot of stuff for the player in too.  But the main point is to make the challenge you're facing more interesting and varied.  And mean ;)  If you ask for it, at least.

The Zenith Gravity Stabilizer, because there aren't enough counters to gravity.
