Well seeing as most devs add whatever features will sell...

Next patch notes:
* Added sexy bikini babe ships

Been there, done that.  In Japan, of course, to no one's surprise.  Heh.

I haven't read this entire topic but does it pretty much revolve around having a central in-game 'chat client' for AI War players?

The original idea was to add matchmaking to the game, which was shot down by logical voices. The prevailing thought now is the vote on whether or not to add an in-game IRC function.

I, for one, am in favor of it, and voted so on Mantis. Honestly I hadn't really cared until I tried out the Star Ruler demo, and while that game definitely needs a lot more work to be a "must-buy" for me, I definitely fell in love with the in-game IRC. I didn't participate much in it, but I saw people chatting and joining games, the developers were friendly and chatted with the players, helping them out. I really enjoyed it, and thought it would be a tremendous addition to AI War.

An in-game chat with the facility to click a player and join their game would be AWESOME.  ;D

It would bring the AI community together and allow active players to easily find each other, because right now it's not very organised with no central meeting point.

This. Aside from forums, which many people do not like, there is no central place to communicate/find other players. It leads to heavy fragmentation which doesn't help the community as a whole. By having another official avenue to communicate (especially with demo users) I think a lot more players will be more involved and interested.
Life is short. Have fun.

It probably wouldn't sell, they'd just complain about the art style.

+1

EDIT: Well, you HAD it isometric, but this side scrolling view of the bikini ships just looks awful! The animation is way off and the shadows look terrible.

I think what is missing is bump mapping.
