What are zombie bots and how are they different?
« on: March 23, 2011, 08:18:04 pm »
I've gathered that human zombies just wander around randomly not controllable by the player.  What behaviors do they follow?  Do they act the same as minor faction ships basically?

How is an AI zombie different than a regular AI unit?  Do AI zombies show in the threat count?

AI zombie bots are pretty much the same as human zombie bots.  If I recall correctly, AI eyes spawn zombies.  Those zombies pretty much swarm towards your worlds relentlessly and attack.  I don't think they would really count much towards threat because they wouldn't be spending much time on their border worlds - they'll probably spend most of their short lifetime either traveling towards your worlds or fighting on them.

Human zombies basically are just like minor faction human resistance fighters, with all the same behaviors and such.

AI zombies are less intelligent in general -- like the human zombies, they just run around in FRD mode, and with that same basic behavior.  I don't think they get orders from the central AI, if I recall.

The big thing on zombies on both ends is that they are also un-reclaimable.  So when the AI spits out a bunch of zombies, you can't just convert them all.

EDIT: Ninja'd. :)

So AI zombies just wander around using up CPU cycles forever?  Similar to the current minor factions who just wander forever, never fighting or taking a risk?  (I know this is about to change in the next release.)

And again, are AI zombies reflected in the threat count?

Oh, and thanks for your quick responses as always. :)

My pleasure.

AI Zombies don't wander, though -- like other hostile minor factions, they attack you.  They should show as threat.  I think they skip the stage of stalking your planets, though, and just blunder on in to whatever is there. :)
