Exo-waves group moving quickly

I have noticed some exo-waves seem to breeze through my gravity turrets too fast. Much too fast.

After doing some digging around, I noticed the groups were group moving much too fast. Raid starships slowed down from from near 300 speed down to 121, but every other units in the waves moves faster. Bombers moving at speed 121 is really distressing. Even worse, this group move speed negates my gravity turrets.

AI types are spireling and starship commander. The exo waves is wave 3 from golems - hard


Speed boosters are not unlocked. So I gotta ask:


Is this intended? I can't find a counter with no speed boosters to shoot at.

All coordinated ships move at the speed of the lead ship.  Iirc you can still stop a follower via engine-killing but you have to kill the engine completely.  Gravity effects only work if they catch the lead ship too, and if that lead ship is immune to gravity then you're up a creek as far as slowing it down before engaging it.

Is it the implosion artillery? They move at 116 and are immune to gravity.

Yea, that would be a likely leader.

Personally I'd prefer it if nothing were immune to gravity, as one of the hallmarks of grav turrets in the past is that there was no countermeasure other than simply shooting the things, but here we are :)  And it's pretty important for the mechanic working that stuff not get too far separated from the lead ship, etc.

In the end I think it's a good variation on the threat, and requires an extra dimension of defense to handle.

By the way, is engine-killing the followers working?

Nothing should work against everything. And I believe you that the non-gravity effect is necessary. In fact it just makes the waves scarier.

I'll make sure to get spiders if I have to deal with exo waves next time. I can't test your engine damage now.
