No amount of protection is worth the negatives imo. It also only prevents raids (warp attacks) not CPAs or border aggression. Which means that you still need a fleet for protection there anyway.

As for dreadnoughts, i would say they are very late in unlocking but to complete my starship fleets sometimes i go for them.. though usually they die first and i hope they get a boost in the next pre-release...

If i am starved on knowledge i wouldn't unlock any dreadnoughts though

True, a warp jammer station could provide a safe "parking lot" for golems.  Don't have to worry about the 3x waves, and the golem can certainly clear out any ships that just wander in.

They could also be useful for things like human colonies (proper term?  the things which give resources, but bring larger waves).

Since the Warp gates are down to 5 AI progress gate raiding is much more attractive than the costly warp jammer (and even before i didn't use it). From the rest i use pretty much anything, depending on what i need in that particular game.
