Neinzul Enclave changes (and effects on youngling usage)
« on: June 25, 2013, 09:03:41 am »
After buying the new expansion, I came back for another game or three ('cos 139 hours logged just wasn't enough pain) and was looking forward to trying out the new ships when I found that one of my old favourites was working rather differently...

Neinzul Enclave starships now auto-produce drones when enemy ships are present: sweet!  They can't produce fleet ships any more: hmm, I suppose that's bearable.  They can't produce younglings any more: uhh... what?

Am I missing something here?  I got youngling Shrikes as a bonus ship but my MkI Enclave's cannot produce them 'in the field', making them... three-quarters useless?  I mean, they're still kinda useful as a defensive option, but for offense, no.

How are people using younglings with this system?

As a side-question, I presume I no longer need to research higher-mark turrets to make full use of the higher-mark enclave starships now?

Thanks in advance for the info, as always!

The ship you're looking for is the Mobile Space Dock, its in the scilabs's unlock menu. That is now the 'mobile field builder' unit.

Mobile Space Dock,
Ah-hah!

Bugger, I may have messed up my research choices a bit...  On the other hand, I'm not too far into the game, so I should be able to remedy that after another planet or two gets captured.

Love the new turret controllers by the way, but it really makes it hard to keep my AI progress dead low with all these juicy targets to capture.

You'll learn to love the new Enclaves pretty quickly. Particularly if you unlock some more of them (and the mk IIs are cheap). They can flood a system with so many drones that it really ties up the AI's attention and do some damage. mk IV's can do a lot of damage.

Looks like this has been answered :)  And yes, the enclave drones no longer require turret tech.

Precisely ;D
