My Official MiniGame Suggestion
« on: May 07, 2010, 11:14:53 pm »
Given that it won't be elected from the week 5/2 - 5/8 I will use this as my next mini game suggestion thread with much more info :)

The Reason
Many people and game reviewing website has criticize AI War for being too long in game length, too complex in game style. As we know they say that just because they do not have enough skill, we shall move on to game length.

A usual game takes people weeks of spending an hour 5 times a week or less. This however leads to a extreme satisfaction in gameplay, it too has some flaws such as forgetting what happened last time, keeping track of everything, and changing the game style a lot.

The solution to this problem is shortening the game, obviously removing parts of the game that makes the game AI War unique, and not another free flash game you find on the internet. However, just such as Single Player Campains for MW2 are often ignored, as long the players appreciate the game and it's original gameplay, it will attract more rts fans to the game and will offer another gamestyle people wish to choose

The Benefits
1. Attracts more people to the game.
2. Can finally make AI War competitive if wanted (scoreboards is enough)
3. Can offer a refreshing new way to play if wanted
4. Can efficiently shorten the length of game play (1 hour - 3 hours) to an amount of 1 game a day, keeping a game always new.
5. Can offer a much more appealing online match making style.
6. Can get to the action faster in the game.
7. And much more (you have to say that to make people believe 8))

The "How"
Now we can make some possible real suggestions of what we want for mini-games.

Tower Defense
Ahhh, How can we forget the days we put turrets, towers, sentries, mobile fighters to prevent the enemy from reaching it's destiny? Though the just putting turrets to prevent the ai from leaving through a wormhole will not be anything new, we can add our own little turn about it.
From that we can change "tower defense" to Survival mode. Try to survive as long as you can. Very much like the super terminal, we can get a limited amount of resources, you cannot go out your system to expand, your main goal is to protect your command station. Either you unlock things with a knowledge boost every few levels or just by buying it, you can choose to either give you a 1 minute break every wave they send at you to rebuild, or just plain classic, no stopping, just wave after wave. Also very similar to a suggestion i got: give yourself a resource boost and make ai raider type with 2x waves, maybe activate the omega some 20 times, with a nice resource boost with every cpa you pass.

Sandbox Mode
Sandbox mode, I love goofing of do you? Do you like to use cheats and constantly exploit the game to "contribute" to the game? Introducing sandbox mode, obviously not a gametype and is just plain screwing around. Maybe you can control what the AI sends at you, or try to test the limit of your graphic card.

Extreme Customizing

Action faster is fun for some people, maybe you want to spawn right next to the AI home planet and assault it within 1 hour of the game, with extreme customizing, you can have a goofy 2 planet map, rounds where you spawn with an assault army ready for you at a cost of lower resources you would normally get or just a default army. Maybe you want to have a map where you have 79 wormhole connections. Other goofy and game breaking stuff which should also go with sandbox mode is good.

As you can see, the real suggestion is tower defense or "survival" we can add more minigames when we think of them, but using the scoreboard and server hosting better is the next step I see for AI war, Welcome all other suggestions.

Well, for what it's worth, a scenario editor is one of the major planned features of the next expansion, and I'm personally hoping to make sure it will allow the creation of scenarios with much narrower scope objectives (i.e. "take planets X, Y, Z", or "destroy special structure A", or "defend planets B, C, and D for 10 minutes against this massive attack", or "Re-enact this really big battle and see if you can get by with fewer losses or win in less time").

But it's really not the sort of thing that will happen before the expansion.
Have ideas or bug reports for one of our games? Mantis for Suggestions and Bug Reports. Thanks for helping to make our games better!

Ooh, frame it as a "training simulation" or something along similar lines!

it doesn't have to be a scenario editor, a easily modded game that controls waves and makes a more frequent, some tower defense specific unlocks and things, maybe just one map for beta testing, then a few "classic and offical ai war mini game " maps, and then more mini games
