Turret caps, how does it work?
« on: May 26, 2014, 05:01:11 pm »
I've read somewhere that different turrets have caps per planet, and others have global caps.

I've built lots of turrets on my home planet, but when I go to another planet it says I've used up so and so much of the cap.

How do they actually work?

Well, considering a forthcoming beta patch is likely going to change this, instead of answering about turrets, I'll answer about caps.

Per-planet caps are like the one on the Mini-fort. You can build two of those on a planet, then (as long as you have supply and energy, and the metal to build them) you can build a second pair of them elsewhere in the galaxy. You can repeat doing this as many times as you have planets to do it on and energy to spare. (neutral planets close enough to you to have player supply also count as valid locations.)

Galaxy caps are like the ship caps: You have X amount. Once you've built all of those, you can't build more. (If you lose half of them later, you can either wait for the remains rebuilders to rebuild them, or build that half-cap elsewhere.) Everything that is not specifically a per-planet cap is this kind.

So currently I can only build so much turrets, and have to spread them out between my home planet and all the Whipping Boys I'd like to put up. Bleh, that'll be bad..

Yep. Exception is the Core (mk V) turrets you get from capturing turret controllers. Those are global, but you can't place any of them on a planet with a normal turret of the same type.

This will all be changing in a beta patch soon.

That's nice to know. :)

As a sidenote. I purchased through Steam. How do I get the Beta patches applied to my copy?

When you launch the game, one of the buttons on the main menu should say update. That can get beta versions.
