Multi-HW Multi-Champ question
« on: July 14, 2013, 11:11:06 pm »
I started a multiple homeworld (two) game and was wondering how it works champion wise?  I thought you got a champion for every HW you had.  The only way to get more than one I could think of was to add a player as champion only then remove the player so I could get control of it.

Is there a way to get another champion without adding another player so I don't have to deal with switching user interfaces all the time and I can get it into a control group, etc?
May the Force be with you.

And the Triforce too.  :D

There's an "Extra Champion" option for this. Where all the players show up, just click it, it should say something like "Open" "Closed" "Extra Champion"
Destroying humanity, one command station at a time.

Nope.  Each champ take a player slot.  Clicking "enable team control of units" helps some with the grouping though, so you might try that and see if it helps any.

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Hmmm... That's unfortunate.  I would like an option for another champion that is under your direct control.

That's how it works. "Extra Champion" takes up a player slot, but is still under your control in a singleplayer game.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

No. It does not play like another champion under you direct control.

There a lot of stuff that feels like it should be better.

You can't assign the second Champion to a squad key. (So no key to bring them both up at once.) You have to do every design for it seperately from the main one. They both can unlock different trees.

There is a lot more, but you get the picture. A second champion under your direct control would play just like the first. Not the way it is now.

If you could hotkey the extra champions it wouldn't be so bad, but right now using extra champions is to tedious to be 'fun'

Ctrl-H switches directly to each Champion - it just also switches the HUD to that player.  Personally, I rarely split multiple Champions into more than 1 or 2 groups, so I can shortcut to Player 1's Champion and get all of them the vast majority of the time.  The rest of the time, I use Ctrl-H or the Galaxy Map on either the Champions filter, or the Broad Search -> Shadow Ships filter.
While it would be nice to be able to put other Champions in a group, I don't find it difficult to work around.
Same thing with designs.  As Player 1 create them, and save to disk.  With Player 2+, just hit the "Load Settings from Disk" button, and it'll auto-load all the designs.  Do it once at the start of the game, and you're done for the next 20 hours.
