Riot Starships are suddenly even more useful
« on: March 17, 2012, 05:19:43 pm »
So I just discovered by accident that riot starships (more specifically their shields) are able to push AI units around.

This is nice and helps in wormhole assaults, but I found another use for it that is probably unintended: They can push units out from underneath AI forcefields/shielded guard posts.

Haha, that's great :)  Yes, unintended, but I think it's a valid use for them as a utility unit.

There's also using their tractor beam modules to "steal" a bunch of enemies from a threat-pile on the other side of a wormhole and bring them back to get shredded in detail on your side.

Hah. Never thought about doing that. Totally want to do that now  :)

And, of course, there's getting all 4 mkII riots with tazers and cutting enemy dps by a significant percentage in a close-range scenario like a wave emergence, etc.

You'll need shield bearers of some kind to be able to succesfully do that.  Otherwise the threatball will eat your riots.
... and then we'll have cake.

I take it just throwing a cap-full of mkI fighters (or other, cheaper, expendable and numerous units) through first doesn't gum up the enemy targeting lists enough to cover the riots for a few seconds?

Oh that does the trick, but I, like some, am not normally given to intentionally sending sacrificial units to soak up enemy fire. :P This is of course where Neinzuls and their carriers come in handy.

Not enough on a wormhole that you care enough about to use this trick.  They die in the alpha to the 500+ MK x ships sitting on the other side.  The riots get the remainder.
