Community Wiki... who's in charge?
« on: March 08, 2010, 12:09:48 pm »
Who's in charge of the community wiki?

I'd like to break out the giant unit strengths/strategy pages ... I figure if I'm taking notes, I might as well make them available to the community as I learn the game. :-P

Also, there's a slight problem with spam, and it'd help if there was a feature enabled either to require a logged-in user to edit, or an anti-spam module enabled on the wiki.

Well, Chris is in charge; as far as moderation of content I don't think there's anyone, just y'all.  I mean, if a staff member is looking at the wiki and sees something spammy or just plain wrong we'll probably do something about it, but we aren't watching the edit list as there just isn't time.

Understood. I've been fixing things as I stumble across them as well ... but it'd help if either the 'vote-to-ban-IP' was enabled or there was another way to alert someone with admin where the spam problems are and how to fix them.

Speaking as an experienced mediawiki admin: There's several ways to fix it, either enable logins-required, the mod queue, or a spam library. Doing nothing just means you'll have more and more spam.

I agree something should be done, but it's for Chris to say whether and what.

Thanks! I've got recommendations if he's willing to listen. I take care of about five mediawiki installs right now, one of 'em quite large.
