Can you choose your bonus ship type?

Example - When starting a new game you see a planet you like but are not interested in the bonus ship....Is it possible to change the bonus ship without changing the map?

Nope, you have to change the map -- thus some incentive for not always just choosing your favorite bonus ship, but rather experimenting around a bit more.

You can make some degree of changes to the bonus ships available on a specific map by changing what bonus ships are ~legal~ on that map - by switching between simple, normal, and complex you wind up with different sets of bonus ships.

This doesn't help, of course, if you insist on playing with a certain set of bonus ships, or if your preferred ship only shows up on complex.
