Lost due to Dyson Gatlings, Is this intended?
« on: August 17, 2010, 10:49:38 am »
Hello,

I am really enjoying the game so far (just finished my first game). On my second game, I decided to enlist the help of the Dyson sphere by taking out the AI command center. So far so good. Since the planet had a Mark II and III cannon that wasn't being attacked I figured I could temporarily take the planet to capture those. The Dyson sphere started to produce hostile gatlings, but that was expected. They unexpectedly proceeded to destroy the ion cannons, but I figured that wasn't that big of a deal. What I did not expect is that they went from world to world to target my command centers and ignore all else  :'( Eventually they made to my homeworld and that was game over. My question is, is this expected to happen?  I figured the hostile gatlings would just stay around that planet or kill everything before proceeding to my next planet. Instead they made a beeline straight to my whole world.

P.S. After the destruction of each command center, the A.I. was taunting me as though they destroyed it. Is this a bug or are they colluding ;) (Accelerated hostile gatlings are uses AI code?)

Playing on 3.1.8.1

The hostile dysons are intended to hunt down and kill your home command station (and kill other ones on the way), yes.  This behavior is more targeted at meanie players who liked to talk about how the dyson wasn't that much of a threat ;)  Sorry if it was a bit overly merciless with you.  I would suggest reloading from before trying to cap the planet, armed with your new knowledge that messing with Mike Dyson requires a rather large and effective fleet and/or defense to take care of them.  Also a good idea to not try to hold it for long :)

The AI isn't really supposed to taunt you when minor factions destroy your command stations, but I'll go with the collusion theory as being suitably entertaining :)
