Looking for a super aggressive game
« on: July 29, 2012, 11:52:45 am »
As the title states, I'm looking for a super aggressive game to play with my friends.  We want to AI to attack us...constantly.

What are some of the better aggressive AI types?

For AI types, Mad Bomber, the Raider types (I think there are 2 or 3) and Bully?

For Options: 2x Waves, No Wave Warnings, Preservation Wardens, Maurauders and Hybrids (although not advanced hybrids).

Are advanced hybrids not as aggressive or something?

I would say advanced hybrids may get more aggressive that you would like in short time.. unless you like regular gatling visits.

The Mad Bomber will send much heavier waves but not any more frequent.

Neinzul Youngsters send waves twice as often, but they're always a mix of the youngling types.

Yea, those will all help the feeling of being under attack all the time, and Roaming Enclaves will help too.  Making them all 10/10 intensity helps a lot too.

There's also the various exo sources, but those attacks are not frequent (except certain parts of FS, which overshadow the rest of the game while they're happening) and tend to upset any kind of "balance of power".

Astro Trains would be a slight gain in overall chaos too.

Mapwise, the more connections the better, as the more planets the AI can send worlds at the less it feels the need to wait longer to send bigger waves.

Gameplay-wise, if you keep mildly defended "buffer worlds" between your citadel-defense worlds and the AI, the threatballs won't get very big and will charge you much more readily.

And yea, if both the Advanced Hybrids and the Dyson Golem are on... it could be a shorter game than you're going for.  But if the Dyson isn't on you could turn them on, iirc it speeds up maturity a bit.

I recomend this:
Auto AIP 0/0 (I don't like this)

Human Maruaders: Off, 2 or 4
Human Resistance Fighters: 2 or 4
Zenith Miners: 4, 5 or 6. 8 can get annoying.
Zenith Dyson Sphere: 2 or 4
Zenith Devourer: On
Neinzul Rocketry Corps: 10 (yes 10 it's not that bad)
Neinzul Preservation Wardens: Off, 2 or 4
Broken Golems: 4
Botnet Golem: 4
Spirecraft: 4

Schizophrenic: On

Avenger on for both AIs
Astro Trains on for both AIs
Hybrids 4 for both AIs. The other one could have higher than 4 if you want to.
Advanced Hybrid: 4 for the other AI

AIs:
http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_AI_Opponent_Types
Sledge Hammer (Herp a derp)
Assassin/Bully (I haven't tried this)
2xSpecial Forces Captain 10/10 (I haven't tried this but the amount of ships flying around the galaxy might cause lot of border aggression)
Spire Hammer (I like this one. It's not the hardest but the Spire Frigates and Destroyers are nasty and powerful)
Raid Engine (Manageable but hard and aggressive)
Techonologist Parasite (Aggressive and nasty)
Technologist Raider (Aggressive and nasty but I find TechParasite to be harder)

Zenith Descendant (Half impossible on 10 diff)
Mad Bomber (Half impossible on 10 diff)

Here's a lobby setup script with the settings mentioned above. I use those settings in most of my games.
set /A diff=10
if %diff%==max (
   set /A me=:)
) else (
   set /A me=SadPanda
)

Keith's got the idea. My friends aren't really the slow, galaxy conquering, 4x type. If the game starts to get boring they lose interest. It's my job to make sure that they don't :P

Also concerning the Advanced Hybrids, if one of us doesn't have a raiding party ready by 3 hours, we deserve to lose.

You may want to try defender mode. The goal is to survive X amount of time, but the AI is VERY aggressive.
You get lots more to your name to compensate though.

Yea, my experience in defender is a slightly slow startup followed by almost continuous chaos, culminating in "can I buy enough time during the collapse of my empire to run out the timer?".

But defender is pretty tricky to set up right, and for some people they run into some bug where the AI doesn't send any waves at all until too late to win.  I'd have put more time into finidng out what's going on there, but basically no one plays that mode ;)

I'm playing 10/10 Turtle and Shadow Master.
Snake
120 planet map

Cross planet waves
Beachheads

Fallen Spire
Civilian leaders
4 resistance fighters
4 dyson sphere.

I'm going for a Fallen Spire win. Now that game is non stop AI aggression, currently on the 3rd hub with 3 choke points set up at the moment. Try it out if you want a real non-stop battle!

But the Turtle AI doesn't send waves. If you were to replace it with a Neinzul or Raider type theoretically it should be much more aggressive.

On a different note, if you want a lot of pain you could also enable "no wave warnings".

I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

I'm enjoying the Neinzul Youngling a lot; it's not the hardest but it throws a nice variety of unpleasant things at you.  I suspect Zenith Descendent might also be fun and various.
