List of Favorite Mantis Issues
« on: September 09, 2012, 09:46:04 pm »
Post links to mantis issues you feel deserve more attention. Please do not attempt to justify them beyond a sentence or two, or critisize other suggestions.

My own:

Dynamic Defence Guardians: when freed, move through AI territory to do nasty stuff to you. Intended to prevent mindless offence and generate interesting scenarios.

AI defence fleets: Special forces' big brother. These fleets patrol around AI territory. Their best counter is to run away.
If warheads can't solve it, use more warheads.

I like both of them, please add!

CTRLS - Non-military units rally to allied orbital command station (if present) - For the love of God add this, the logic is already in the game.  http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=7994

The armor and hull types could both be looked at to (at the same time preferably).

Something about starships. I like starships.
http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=126
Starship special abilities. Sure, lets go with that one.

I feel a lot of these could be applied to the champion, give the champion's gameplay a little more activeness.. more than 'drop shield and sit under it'. Although you can do cool things with the spire ship..

More color choices for players and AI -- There is very little variety in the colors you can pick for yourself and the AI. We should have a color picker or at least be able to choose a hex value in a config file. It's also not very friendly to colorblind folks:

A hotkey to mute music -- Civilization IV has it. Here's why: in a strategy game, sometimes you need to turn off the music to think, but don't want to pause the action. After playing for a long time, even very good music can suddenly become irritating. Let me do this without having to open a dialog that also includes every other option in the game.

Give concentric galaxy maps a widescreen option -- Pretty self-explanatory. Concentric maps are really neat-looking, but on a widescreen monitor, there's a lot of wasted space on either side of it.

Also if anyone has started a "bring back the dang minimap in the upper right corner" Mantis, I'll upvote it as hard as I can, for all the good it'll do.

(edited for more shortness)

Thats odd - my favorite color for me as a player always has been generic enemy red.

My enemies get awesome pastel green and blue or yellowBEES.

I typically roll with a the lighter blue, or the lighter green. My AIs get orange, yellow, or red. Depends on what I want to do.

I like a lot of the colors, actually. The only ones I have a problem with are pink, which conflicts with FRD, black which is hard to see on the background and the weird pink-beige colors.

I'll also just highlight one of my own mantis issues, Extreme Golems/Spirecraft. Essentially combines medium and hard, the attrition/repair immunity, AIP and energy costs with the exo waves as well. For the "best" of both worlds.

I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Ideas like this make me wonder:  Why don't we just have a "Additional Exowave, On/Off" option for the more masochistic adventurous amongst us?

Is the 2x waves modifier not enough?

edit
that actually kinda makes me wonder.
Could I possibly play a game on no-waves, with my main enemy being hybrids at 11? (and spire exowaves. Everyone loves spire)

That sounds like a really awesome idea.

My number one thing (which there is no centralized mantis issue for) is the glut of UI bugs, mostly those involving text boxes.

As for actual mantis issues...so many to chose from, but I can pick out 3 for now:

5001: AI Undervalues Turret Firepower
1843: Key binding to override global auto-FRD
3094: Teleporting units don't respect group move

Hm, Id really love a 'follow' command.. That way i could assign a scout starship to follow my champion around with the needless annoyance of a 4th control group for it. (atm, 1 is champion, 2 is fleet, 3 is both. 4 for champion+countersniper/scout starship)

or maybe just give the champion minor tachyon emissions and minor countersniper ranges.

Some of my favorite simple issues from my submissions...I'll post my favorites from others tomorrow.

Visual/UI:
System Mark in Intel Summary (#3515) - Very helpful when using things that care, like Spirecraft
Show Selected Units on Galaxy Map (#3586) - So I can tell what I'm order where, and if alt-click will pull up unit or galaxy context

Number issues:
Fix wave warning count (#5466) - It's really unclear, since it counts starships twice
Fix Guard Post count on Intel Summary (#4780) - Basically, it isn't clear what it's talking about

Controls:
Better zoom QWER settings (#4704) - I want to use these, but they aren't at useful values

Astro Trains:
Astro Train warnings are annoying (#3710) - They aren't going to kill your CS
Astro Train improvements (#2734) - Brainstorm of Astro Train ideas

This is why I have not posted any mantises here. I don't want to just promote my own ideas, but I don't really browse Mantis too often.
