I was just looking over when the AI unlocks Mark II, III and IV and I noticed difficulty applies in a somewhat unusual way (
according to the wiki):
1) Difficulty affects when Mark II is unlocked
2) Difficulty does NOT affect when Mark III is unlocked, it always unlocks 500 AIP after Mark II
3) Difficulty does NOT affect when Mark IV is unlocked either, it always unlocks 400 AIP after Mark III
This is due to the
x-(10*difficulty) formula that applies for all three unlocks. Starting at difficulty 9.3, the AI starts at Mark II and moves up from there. I guess I always expected higher difficulties to have tighter thresholds and they don't really aside from the special case of 9.3+ and that is just a hard break point which seems somewhat at odds with the current difficulty scale.
Maybe
800-difficulty*15 for Mark III unlocks and
1200-difficulty*20 for Mark IV would be a better fit at least for 9 and below. Just a thought. See below for a before and after table:
