FRD move
« on: April 04, 2011, 06:24:19 pm »
I use FRD mode in galaxy settings for military and eng.
Does anyone know how to give the order to a unit to move to a place and stop there without the FRD mode reactivates automatically sending my ship to death?  ???
Even if I use the special STOP command (pressing ALT),  the ship after 1 second turn again to FDR mode and chease enemies...
I guess the answer is " turn off FDR from galaxy settings" but I want to be sure ther isn't any other good way. Infact I can avoid to use FDR for military but not for engineers, otherwise I have to micro them too much. But also for engineers many times I would like to move them inside a FF and park them there but it is not possible... FDR turns on automatically after the I give STOP order :'(

There is already a suggestion about such a feature. See http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=1843

In the mean time, you can tell them to attack move to a point, and that will stop them from going into FRD. While that is useful for military ships, as they are FAR less willing to chase enemies in attack move than in FRD mode, it doesn't really help engineers, as they treat FRD and attack move the same, and it doesn't help with cases where you want a ship to stay in place even when there are enemies around.

I have logged a ticket about this concerning the feature for engineers, as you can not build them on FRD and the only way to manage them with auto-build is by turning on FRD as well.

edit; However no-one seems to care about supporting it ..  ::)

When it comes to the military setting, just build them on FRD, or set them in such stance "once". Dont really see the added value of tweaking it for military ships. Better said, I find it a mute option for the reasons you basicly explained why it should be tweaked, for me its the reason why it would be better to simply remove it and not give you 2 methods to achieve the same. Buuut .. thats ofcourse just my opinion :)
