Interesting, yea, I know about the video-card-ram-needs-to-be-mapped-within-the-same-virtual-space problem where having more video ram can actually REDUCE the ceiling amount of memory your game can actually use for things like, you know, entity data ;)  I suppose that could be at play right now.  Dunno how having more normal ram would make that problem worse, though.  Must've been a more specific bug in that game's way of detecting system resources.

Clearly this means the AI thread needs to be processed through CUDA.

No. No. No. Not CUDA. Cuda would mean it'd only help a fraction of computers.

OpenCL, that way it can run on ATI and Intel GPU's in addition to Nvidia ones.

But yes. Yes this game SO should have GPGPU offloading.

The mouseover stats box shows the same AP regardless of ship cap setting. At least for fighters and infiltrators.

ANY nVidia GPU that's newer than the 8800's, whic statistically is about half of gaming machines :P But I understand what you are saying. How awesome would it be to have the AI thread on our video cards? ;D

8600GT and up(Theoretically the 8400, but its disabled due to being performance wise worthless according to nvidia)... HD4350 and up. Next set of Intel GPU's coming out(thought current gen did... apparently not, odd that)... any week now. XD And seriously, there really that many gaming machines predating that? That still count as current gaming machines XD? Okay I guess AI war runs on just about anything with a good cpu and a real video card... But that's just how kickass x4000 is.

<.< I mean for goodness sake, even on a tight gaming budget, a GTS 240 can be had for sub-50$... or 250 for sub 75$... Or a GTX 460/HD 5770 for just over 100$...

; . ; I love the gpu market right now... Wish I could afford to upgrade my 8800gt... XD Oh well. Its a flipping 8800gt. It's got a little more life in it before new game start crushing it at my preferred 1920x1080 res xD

Exactly. I mean, I got my 280 when they were new and thus, $400+ but I still have it and haven't needed to upgrade. The few CUDA applications I've run beat the living crap out of anything my Quad Core can handle (Go start folding on the CPU client and the GPU CUDA client and lol at the difference). Though the processing is entirely different (More parallel and a lot less precise) so I'm not really sure how that would even affect the AI thread. Plus your GPU and RAM are still pumping out of the same bus and the same address space, so it wouldn't necessarily perform better in the case of a video game (Plus the GPU can't render textures and the like while it's processing), but it would still be mighty impressive.

I have yet to see a hunter killer... I tend to like my Ai threat low :P

Tho after teh recent changes (the my fleet generates threat thing) I had a big bubble of MK V ships hanging outside my home world that I had to send in two fleets to kill off (first fleet died) :P

So far tho, I am enjoying my new game a lot. Balance seem to be coming around great, with only some minor less used fleet ships remining, mostly the experimentals. The core shield stuff is not so bad either.
