iTunes and Remastered Tracks - Free to current customers?
« on: September 26, 2010, 05:59:08 pm »
If someone has already purchased the current album(s) for AI War and [Tidalis], would they have a free download for the remastered tracks from the upcoming 4.0 from iTunes?

I didn't even know you could get the AI War soundtrack on iTunes.  Funny, I just suggested that it should be a possibility when 4.0 is released.   :D

(Which is why I suggested that they re-post the link to their iTunes.)

Maybe there is a way to just extract them from the installation to listen at will (assuming that is permitted)?

*Cough*

Some are already in raw .ogg format.

I didn't even know the music was on iTunes.

And yea, all the music is in ogg files in the "music" directories (there's one in the base game directory and one in each of the expansion directories, though the CoN music has not yet been released).  I don't know what the EULA says about them (if anything) but certainly you can copy them and play them on whatever of your personally owned devices (ogg is a very open format).

Honestly I don't know why you'd need to buy them, unless you hadn't bought the game :)  Maybe the iTunes package has some kind of convenience feature.

 :-\

Subtlety is lost. I was trying to be discreet if that was not permitted... but yeah,

\Steam\steamapps\common\ai war fleet command\Music
\Steam\steamapps\common\tidalis\RuntimeData\MusicOther

It's a shame some of these are missing titles.

Or perhaps that some people appreciate the music to the extent of purchasing them!

As I've said before, I'd be happy to purchase them, but not from iTunes.

Exactly.  Just another way to show your appreciation.   :)  Of course, including an exclusive track would sweeten the pot.   ;)

(Or access to the album before 4.0 is released, unless that's going to be done anyways for the beta.)

Anyone looking to sell music from an indie game should follow Artem Bank's example with the soundtrack from Star Ruler (though maybe charging a set fee instead of a pay-what-you-want scheme).  Offer up the soundtrack from a website in whatever format the buyer wants (mp3, FLAC, etc), and don't tie it down to iTunes or some service like that.  I know I still chipped in a few dollars directly to Mr. Bank despite having bought four copies of Star Ruler to this day.
