Is this normal?!
« on: June 08, 2014, 02:35:03 am »
So, playing vs a level 9 Vicious Exotic/Bouncer.  We were at around 200AIP and seemed to have things under control, the exos were sending a couple of HKs and a a few golems or dire guardians plus some spirecraft.  We took another couple of systems which brought the AIP up to 255 and then got hit with everything but the i am spam sink on the next exo.  It's got 3 HK4s, 11 golems, over 50 spirecraft, and 16 dire guardians.  Needless to say, we can't stop it.  Is this normal, because that felt more like a difficulty cliff than a curve...

Well, Vicious Exotic is red AI for a reason(Also difficulty 9), so i think that's "normal" :P I'd say select normal Exotic unless you are up for !!Fun!! things like that. Also "I am spam sink"?  ???

Aparently I got pwned by a filter on the forum because that's not what I typed...

Edit: I wonder what prompted the automatic replacement of "kit.chen" with "I am spam"...

"kitch-en" is censored due to bots.

I take it there was a plague of bots selling cabinets or dishes or something at one point?  Lol, the ai want's to sell us home furnishings before killing us.

The furnishings are carriers full of motherships.

Or maybe the motherships are full of all those food-preparation-chambers they were trying to sell us?  And the H/Ks are presumably the sales representatives.

On the original question: Diff 9 Vicious Exotic should generally be a fairly deep shade of the color "death", but I'm not sure why the response would have gone up so dramatically at 255 AIP vs, say, 215 AIP (where you presumably would have been before taking those couple planets).  More reinforcements are redirecting to waves at that point but that doesn't generally get really nasty until a higher AIP.

If you have the wave logs (from Advanced Logging, found in the AI War installation's RuntimeData directory) both of previous waves and of the really big nasty one(s) then that can help identify what specifically decided that you needed to die now.

That is correct. We had A LOT of kitch-selling bots a while back, so we made fun of them by implementing a filter. I guess it's been changed to "i am spam" recently :P

Hey Keith, we haven't been able to sit down and reload from an older save yet (gonna see if we can do that tonight) but the previous quite tough yet manageable exo we had before we took those systems took place at 205 AIP because the Civy Leaders hadn't ticked over the hour yet so we were still at tech threshold I.  We had only enabled adv logging once before, so we are not too savvy in knowing what to look for, well, I'm not anyway.  According to KnightRAF, one contributing factor seemed to be that it was counting a multiplier as if we had 4 homeworlds.  KnightRAF and myself only had 1 apiece but we also were playing normal+champion to try out the alt champ progress path.

Do champions/are they supposed to count as another homeworld for wave calculations? (Wondering about that both on and off for alt champ progress.)
And if so, is doubling a wave budget assuming everyone in game is playing with a champion appropriate because of that?

I realize that this particular thing is a side issue albeit still related to the wave calculations but if us both having champions did double the strength of the exo, I'd rather just ditch the champions in this case and still have a wave that is POSSIBLY survivable even considering the huge jump in size.  We definitely didn't have parity after jumping up to a exo wave at 255 AIP with the additional strength the champions.
May the Force be with you.

And the Triforce too.  :D

Each champion actually counts as like 25% of a homeworld, not as full one.

Well, it used to be like that, but it was changed a while ago such that champs no longer provoke more of the normal responses pretty much at all.  Now it's just the nemesis spawns and nemesis exos, basically.
