Is there a way to wake all ships on a planet on purpose?
« on: August 21, 2012, 02:29:49 am »
Other than attacking the Command Center, that is.

I just want to wake them up so my Redirector patrols will engage them automatically, unless there is an even easier way to do that.

Send your squad to attack the command center, but stop them.

It seems that the game triggers on a command to attack the command center, not actually shooting it. So often all the AI units go after me from the other side of the system by me just pressing the attack command on the command center.

Bug or intentional, I dunno. ;)

Transport near the command station, or a golem.

EMP, after you wait for it to wear off. (Instead of sending in the raids to kill, loot and destroy.)

High enough firepower should do it. Usually bringing a golem into a planet, even by itself, will wake everything up.

The Spirecraft Attritioner could be named "Spirecraft Troll" for how good they are at this :)

My ignorance is showing, but what's a redirector patrol?

I'm assuming he's using a Redirector Rally Point and setting it with Ctrl+V into another system, so his ships patrol in FRD mode threw multiple systems.  You can set up chains of these to create roving patrols.

In all my hours of playtime I've never used the redirectors. They seem interesting, but too fiddly to ever bother with. Probably just my laziness.

There are more than a few controls/units added to the game for specific micro purposes that no sane person should touch ;)

Do sane people play this game?

Yes, this.  It's like having my own personal Astro Train... of Ratpors!  And Nanoswarms.

I wish I could set Redirectors to only redirect a specific Control group.  Then I could have a my Fab pumping out Mark V Nanoswarms into that, and have them auto-patrol my space.  Then let me put in Redirectors that redirect only reclaimed ships so I can create a stock on my home planet of everything I've reclaimed.  All automated while I work on the real business of crushing planets.

The "chipper shredder" metaphor is becoming less and less metaphorical.
