Is Anyone Getting Desyncs in 4.072+?
« on: January 21, 2011, 10:38:37 am »
I haven't seen any reports of desyncs since 4.072 was released.  We have reason to believe that version fixed the last of them.

But please, please tell us if you have had in desyncs in 4.072 or later, and provide the saves and desync error logs and info on what you were doing :)

Or, if you've been able to play mp for hours with no problems, please let us know that too :)

Indeed. This is pretty much the last barrier to 5.0 coming out. Thanks all!

I haven't gotten a chance to play the latest beta/RC in multiplayer, because my group plays on Tuesday nights.  In whatever version was current then (4.070 or 71, I guess?), though, we didn't run into any desync issues.  Not really in any others before that for as long as I can remember, either, other than the usual need to resync when adding/removing a player if they show up late or have to leave early.  It's been pretty reliable for us for the past 6-ish months that we've been playing weekly games, since before 4.0.  We've been sucking horribly at the game and haven't won even once since 4.0 came out (although a few times we've managed to lose more than once in a single session), but that's a different matter entirely.  Heh.

If Fox gets on today, I'll be able to say, but so far haven't noticed anything.

We haven't played that much lately, but the times we did play we did not encounter desyn's as of yet, so as far as I'm concerned, if the issue is still present, it's not nearly as annoying as it was earlier =)

Three of us played about 5 hours yesterday with whatever the latest was yesterday morning (and left the game running about 7 while we went out to eat (paused of course)) on a local LAN and had no desyncs.

We (2 people) managed to play 4h on LAN without any desyncs so far, although there is one bug related to desyncs I would like to report (in the version 4.073).

- Set 2 players and some Pysite Asteroids
- Start building a Siege Tower Spirecraft
- Before the Spirecraft is built, give it to player 2 (so give a Siege Tower Mining Enclosure)
- Here you are, UnhandledErrors and desync guaranteed :-).

This is 100% reproductible in our game; save and contents of a log attached (at least I hope those are the files I was to attach).

Hope it helps :-).

We've been having problems (pretty much always) adding a new player to an existing game.  We just had a game going last night with two people, and tried to add a third.  So I went into Manage Players, turned the third player from disabled to active, clicked save, and then the third player joined in.  It did the Waiting for Players thing for a couple minutes, so I went into Manage Players again and clicked save to try to resync it or what-have-you.  This apparently caused a desync with the second player.  I tried it again, it did the same thing.

We were able to eventually get around it by adding the third player in Manage Players, saving the game, reloading the saved game, and then everybody joined and it worked.  Does this sound normal?  I've got the save and desync log file if it doesn't.  (multiplayer connection issues aside, great game btw :D)

From the look of things, the desync is only in circumstances when one player was playing a different game before the multiplayer match is loaded, and it's not even happening for all players all the time in those circumstances.  We've looked as much as we can for that sort of desync, but right now we don't have any leads, and in general we're getting reports of no desyncs.

With that in mind, we're going to go ahead with a 5.0 release probably tomorrow.  There are a few last changes that will come out with that, mostly textual in nature, and then that's just it, we'll be out with it.  The other potentially-bug-inducing changes will be saved for the post-5.0 period, where changes will be thinner on the ground but still ongoing.

Sounds like things are really polished overall at this stage, and I think that the current version is actually a lot more polished than 4.021 in general, which is another plus. ;)

Understandable and you can't wait to see if another desync will happen or not forever, that's just silly.  You'll be here all year ;)

Exactly. :)

Thanks for your support -- I know you're one of the two that are running into the last remaining one!
