I have never needed Mark II Raid Starships to destroy every single Ion Cannon, Data Center, Co-Processor, and all the other assorted things you are likely to want to remove surgically.  Even next to an MLRS and Missile GP.  Raid Starships negate Ion Cannons completely and without difficulty.  If you don't feel like using Raid Starships properly, maybe you should turn down the difficulty?

LoL "ad hominem"..

Guard Posts have been buffed and now MRLS and Missile GPs 1 shot Raid SSs. Raid SS Mark IIs are now immune to missiles.. Mark Is aren't. So suiciding with Mark Is would be a horrible waste of resources. Raids are expensive.

@Kahuna, I do try to give you a lot of leeway due to your, um, "personality" :)  But just flat out calling someone an idiot/stupid (or the phrase I edited out in your last post in this thread) contributes to an atmosphere which many of our customers find very uncomfortable (to the extent of not wanting to come here), so I can't let that go on.


On the subject itself I think Ions are on a bit of a razor's edge in terms of balance.  If they're made more durable such that raiding them is not mostly trivial, they can become brick walls.  If they're made more dangerous such that raiding them is even more necessary, well, how often do you just "fight through" one of those anyway rather than raiding it and/or using ion-immune stuff?  If they're made both more durable and more dangerous, then welcome to paintown.

The difficulty comes from that there are multiple levels of Ion cannons and the AI can have several. If a single Mk I Ion cannon is made enough of a threat to actually challenge you...what happens if the AI has three of them on the same planet?

Ions are currently 800k/800k/1.2m/1.6m/2m health.  They take 2/2/3/4/5 hits from Raid Starships to kill.  Since you get three Raid Starships, that's one volley for Marks I, II and III.  Bringing them up to 5/6/7/8/9 hits to kill which is 2m/2.4m/2.8m/3.2m/3.6m.

How do you get this?  I see Raids Mk I doing 102,400 damage per shot.  That means 8/8/12/16/20 shots from a Mk I to kill an Ion cannon.  It's still 3 volleys from a cap of Mk I Raids to kill a Mk I Ion.
