Also, the "can't update to official if betas are availible" needs to go into mantis with a "major" severity.

Are you sure, though, that 7.001 is marked as release? It well may be that there is no bug, it's just that 7.001 is marked as beta (as far as the updater concerned) but also was the latest version pushed to steam. Indeed, according this page http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Current_Post-6.000_Beta#Prerelease_7.001 7.001 is prerelease. So it seems that there is no bug at all.

Still, no resolution for my issue(s).

You know what, I'll try to zip up my steam AI War folder and send it to my friend. That should update him to 7.001

Make sure you don't include the settings file, or otherwise your friend would lose his keybinds, settings, and liscense keys.

Thank you for digging this up, unfortunately it does not quite help. There is nothing in the xml between 7000 and 7007.

I take this back. This http://www.arcengames.com/dl/AIWar7001.zip is still serving the archive. It is not mentioned in the XML (and I believe for good reasons - to allow the updater to work properly) but it does download. Cool! Thanks! I'll try that.

Be careful. Downgrades will not work properly. You will have to reinstall 7.000 and upgrade from there. (Thankfully, you can keep your settings file and saves, though you probably don't want to load a save made in a newer version of the game)
