Ladies and gentlemen, behold: The End of Humanity.

This was the first wave, mind you.

118 homeworlds.

OBJECTION!
How exactly did you pick that many Homeworlds?

To me the lobby only ever offers a small section of the map as possible homeworld locations.

On a sidenote, I think that is literally impossible to stop, even if you were to have a spire fleet with 118 times it's normal cap immediately ready. I think that blob could EASILY overrun even the spire galactic transit network's "waves".

Can't even imagine how you'd stop that in only a few minutes of production and with only normal fleet ships + starships available (all homeworlds = zero superweapons, short time before first wave = no fallen spire cities).

I think that Defender lets you pick as many homeworlds as you want, other than the AIs'.

300% handicap sounds familiar (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/41891911/Handicaps%20of%20Doom%207-7%20300%25%20caps%20%28Vicious%20Exotic-Random%20Harder%5BRadar%20Jammer%5D%20%26%20Spire%20Hammer-Crafty%20Spire%29.7z)... ;D

I wonder how much of that you could take out with 118 HWs worth of warheads.  Not that you'd have the time to stockpile them.

But yea... that's what happens when the AI doesn't get the memo about "don't just crush the humans immediately".

That is AWESOME!  Not as awesome as my doughnut of death, but AWESOME!

I don't think you could build enough defenses to handle that in any case.

Yea, when the AI has to start considering putting H/K's and Motherships in Carriers...

The amusing thing is this is possible to beat.

The AI only has 15 minutes, and motherships and Hunter/Killers can only move so fast.

Nightmare material right there. *shudder*

If they had to go through 117 systems before reaching a home command station, sure, but they don't have to since every one of your planets is a game-over if they attack it.

15 minutes is easily enough for immune-to-absolutely-everything-except-raw-damage units like these to pass through one wormhole and leisurely stroll to the home command station in your first system.

Again, it's been a long time since I've done defender mode, but I'm pretty sure that you don't lose that until every CC is gone. It plays by different rules there.

Defender mode has no home commands. It gives you a Econ III station on every planet selected.

Anyone else noticed there have been zero posts in the Defender Mode Strategy Discussion subforum for over 16 months?  ???

Managed to get slightly more of ye olde motherships, i am not sure what those carriers are carrying though...

It's basically the most broken feature in the game ;)  Particularly in that it doesn't mesh well with a ton of the other lobby choices.

I have an idea for reinventing it that I think will be more fun, but fixing defender mode has definitely not seemed like a priority to anyone here, so I haven't put much time in that direction.

I've had fun with it when I just wanted to see stuff blow up and high mark turrets pwning everything.

But yea, it has sort of "fallen behind" in terms of balance and workability with current mechanics.

We played it on 7/7 last weekish and by the end of it it wasn't particularly exciting. Nothing changed hands until the accumulated threatships attacked instead of the rather meager waves, and the threat was too late to actually take more than a couple planets before timeup.
