I think chivalric AI should be in the base game.

The chivalric AI is the best new player AI IMO. It really helps bring new players into the game by reducing the amount of tasks they need to do and is a very forgiving AI. Switch it out with another easy AI type maybe.

if anything should be in the base game it's Vanilla. But I'm not sure if they can just swap expansion Ai's with base game Ai's.

Probably not because that would be like taking away content people have paid for.

How would it be taking away content? I don't think that giving something for free that used to be paid is "taking away" content. If it makes the base game better and gets more people into the expansions, I think it's a win for everyone. I don't know if that's the case here, if most people play the base game and not the expansions. If so, what a shame, because the Zenith and spire expansions are incredible.

I've never played just the base game. I started with golems and been using them ever since. Putting golems in the base game would be a very bad idea. But just swapping one AI type for another wouldn't really make much of a difference either way. Wouldn't piss players off but would also be kind of pointless as there is enough variety with them in the base game already. Chivalric or vanilla really aren't that much different than the tank for example in terms of difficulty.

The Chivalric AI is great for new players since it lessens the overwhelming amount of information players experiences by not having to worry about those fragile structures. This is not to add content. It is to improve the new player experience.

yet chivalric also has bigger CPA's... don't know exactly how much bigger but i'd say that's pretty disturbing. As a new player, CPA's were one of the more annoying things to deal with (they still can be). And on difficulty 7 and lower, the AI generally goes for the command station regardless of other important structures, IIRC. Most new players don't start on the higher difficulties. Heck, most new players don't even start on difficulty 7, I sure didn't. The complexity of this game scared the crap out of me, I started on 1 :D
No, the base game has easier types than Chivalric already. I'd have to play a game against it to confirm it but I think the description is pretty self-explanatory. The tank and sledge hammer really aren't that hard to deal with.

Chivalric AI tends to add only like 25% strength to it's CPAs. That will not make the game that much harder at all for new players. Losing irreplaceable structures can make the game impossible though.  I have also never seen the AI attack a command station over attacking an irreplaceable structure unless it cuts off supply on all difficulty levels. Also, sledge hammer is actually the hardest easiest AI type IMO. Turtle is the noob trap AI honestly. No waves? This looks super easy. Then the turtle AI's defenses wipe you out and a reprisal wave destroys you.

really? I haven't played against both sledgehammer or turtle for ages, but I remember turtle being a lot harder back then. I've always been good at defending against regular waves but I would crash my fleet against turtles defenses over and over. But I don't remember it that well tbh. They're all the same to me now. Only the hard types and a few of the medium types can make me suffer now.

I remember playing a game awhile ago with 7/7 turtle and a mine enthusiast {I only had light of the spire} and it took forever to defeat one of the turtles planets, so I just quit :)
