Actually, saves are forwards compatible ;)

And Chris fairly regularly tests with games from the alpha phase before the game was even publicly released ;)

If you go waaaay back you can get some seriously changed values, like from before the economy was flow based, and your energy balance might be a lot different... but the games will still be completely playable.
