What if to make the whole game somewhat more interesting, we get a new ship that's default as the default 3.
How dare i change the game mechanics that was here from 1.0?
Rock paper scissor theory
Seeing a wave coming to your planet , you make a ton of countering ships, which is good but you will rely on that too much. Making a new default class will make it 1>2>3>4>1 As you can see, 1 and 3 has no bonuses, 2 and 4,
Having a different ship type will make "If it's a different ship than the AI has, one has a big bonus against the other one" a thing of the past. Which will continue the player to build different ships.
Ship types too much
We have 415 different ships right now, but a lot of them has not fighter bomber or frigate weakness, Make a new ship and problem solved, more encouraging different ship building
Balancing affect
Due to a new DEFAULT ship type will basically take months balancing, it won't be implemented for now i guess.
New Roles
We have different roles for every bonus ship, but making a new ship we need to think of the role for this. What do we need the new ship to do? It must be a basic role so it can't be recon stealthy. It can't be as powerful as a starship. It's a basic soldier that covers all other default ships flaws. Long range is dominated by frigates and sheer destruction is dominated by bombers. Shall we make it a mix of all? or a new ability all together. The ship cap is 198 for sure so too expensive, too op, or too "condition related" is all bad as we have bonus ships for this.
