How to select all buildings so I can rally/build from them?
« on: August 25, 2014, 12:00:24 pm »
I have like 100 factories in 100 different systems, how do I select all of them at once so I can use them?

There are two ways to manage multiplies factories across multiplies solar systems.

First one is pretty straight forward. Just build inter-galactic warp gates for different factories (Merc dock use merc warp gate, fabricator use fabricator warp gate etc...). Those inter-galactic warp gate are available under construction tab. Furthermore some warp gate cover cases that may not seem obvious like nebula ship dock goes to advance production. Bear in mind if you have two warp gate then factories queue will be split between two locations. Also most ship come out of warp gate with a paralyze timer. Oh a little silly thing warp gate can be also given a rally order for ship coming out of warp which ties to my next thing.

Second you can go to each factories and set waypoint to "insert a solar system" individually so they all end up in the same system. If for some reason you may not want to use warp gate. You do this by select the factories and go to galaxy map and right click (just like giving a move order). You can also control where they go with rally point once they get into system so they all end up next to a fortress or something. Bear in mind it may take some time for them to move dozen hops.

Selections can never include units from multiple systems (control groups can, but when you select that control group, it only actually selects the units in your current system in that control group). There is some limited ability to order units across systems from the galaxy map, but that is for movement, such as moving all scouts to one place. You use the magnifying glass on the left, below the P1-P9 buttons. So the short version is you can't.

The long version depends what you are trying to do. I can assume you want to pause or unpause them all. In that case the fastest way is to use the quick find buttons in the bottom left. Click on the one that looks like a space dock, select Dock(100) and it will list all your Space Docks. Shift click on each to pause it. When paused, it will disappear from this list. When you want to unpause them, click on the red battery (which is a list of all paused units) and repeat the process to unpause them. If you click instead of shift-click you will switch to that unit's system.

But I still need to select all of those factories in the first place in order to put something in the build que, or else they won't build anything.

I just want to rally and set the building que from all of them.

You can select factories and what not then set a queue. Then set that queue to infinite repeat with the button that look like an arrow to left. Click that once and the queue will just repeat itself. No need to select all factories in the galaxy to micromanage them.

I just want to rally and set the building que from all of them.

Read my initial post earlier and it will give you instruction on how to use warp gate, rally point (utility tab), giving your recent built ship an order, and other possible usage of therefore.

There are few exception to those like fallen spire campaign ship can't be warp in anywhere (stare at Spire AI) and your champion spawn in a fixed location (home command station) after it dies.

I can't think of a reason to have 100 space docks building which is likely why the game doesn't have an easy way of setting the build queue and rally point of so many space docks. There also isn't often a need to have the space docks in too many different systems. So if you have 20 in 5 different systems you could at least rally them in batches. You'd still need to set queues individually.

May I ask why you need 100 space docks? 6 Engineers+1 Space Dock is roughly the same production power as 7 Space Docks. There is a cap on how fast an individual space dock can build stuff, so it is possible if you have tons of cheap units that you need more docks with less engineers each.

Since Space Docks have a ship cap of 20 I take it you have more than one homeworld? Maybe one of our multi-HW guys can give some advice on how they manage their prodigious production systems.

I've got less of a question about the number of space docks and more why they're spread over so many systems. Fabs aside, I tend to either build everything at either my HW (which stated with a dock and a star con and ends up with a big queue), or almost-border space docks for when I need things built closer by and I forgot to build a warp gate instead.
