Chris posted a forum post here not too long ago with an old excecutalbe. I could not find it with a quick search right now, but if you find it it will show you some old stuff that you can run for yourself actually, so you get a feel and a look ;P :)

Oh man, serious nostalgia trip there...
Wow. There's really a difference.

But I noticed a minimap on the upper right like some mmo.  Is this feature coming back in the. Future instead of the big one when we press t??

It's still in the game actually (Check your Map filter in the bottom left) it's just hidden because it's mostly useless.

The only reason I found it useful is if the viewport went nuts (after an alt-tab or shift-tab) and I wasn't homed-in on the main planet any more - was a lot easier to see what direction the mouse had gone and correct it with the old style, but it's hardly a reason for the perma-minimap to be returned :p

I also found it useful for that reason, although now I just press 'h'.

I like the new look, though a few things annoy me (the display seems a bit flickery at times, and the refresh rate for things like construction progress resource consumption in the floating menus is too high - once a second refresh is more than enough). On the whole however it's a huge step forward, and now that I'm a bit more used to it it's pretty awesome.
