The find tool could probably use a nice, padded cell.  Or users of it could.  I've always found it very clunky.

Just because I can and am too lazy to make a separate post:
How do Ship-Design Hackers work?
(I know the theory from the tooltips, but I built one, had it in system for ~12 gametime minutes, captured, and nada, then reloaded, cleared system, moved it next to AR station, waited ~30 gametime minutes, captured, nada)
nada as in I just got a tech assigned.
I saw though in research there is ARS section with 3 designs (the first one is the one I got), which were greyed out.

Next up: Should I use them? Aren't all ships valuable at least is some rare situations?

Just to be clear: you need to move the hacker in before you take out the AI command station on that planet.  I'm not sure if you meant that by "captured" or if you meant you destroyed it first, then brought the hacker, then built your own station to "capture" it.

As for whether you should, it depends.  Early on I'd suggest just taking the draw and seeing how you like the ship.  For optimal play, though, you'll want to check what's available at each ARS (you can bring a science lab mkI or mkII onto the planet and check its ARS tab to see what it has before you hack) and see whether either of the hackable picks (remember, the leftmost one is the one you'll get if you don't hack) is worth the hack.  Something like Shield Bearers is worth the hack.  Others are more situational: if you already have one type you may prefer something more different than another type that's similar.  Or if you have no cloaked types you may want one.  Etc, etc.  There's a lot of reasons you might pick one over the other that doesn't stem from a general-purpose imbalance.

Though whether the Shield Bearer or any other particularly more-useful-than-average-in-the-general-case bonus ship will remain that way or get nerfed (or other things buffed) is another question.  But I think other things are currently on the top of the community's "needs a nerf" requests.

Thanks, I must have destroyed the command center before I brought the Hacker in :)

I didn't know you could check what'll come out, that's awesome!
