How do I get rid of control groups
« on: September 17, 2014, 10:06:34 am »
I selected some units for a control group. Now I'd like to stop associating those units with that control group ID. How do I cancel the control group, or do I have to select new units and make them the control group?

if I need to clear out a control group, I usually reassign it to a couple scouts and send them on their merry way to meet a tachyon.

Also

Set control group: Ctrl + 1
Add to control group: Ctrl + Shift + 1
Remove from control group: Ctrl + Alt + 1

The 'End' key cancels all orders, including targeting priorities.

I'm Finding the CTL ALT solution is not always very reliable, sometimes it works and sometimes not. I haven't figured out the pattern.

I don't recall if you need to hold CTRL for adding or removing. I don't remember needing to. Note you can also alt+click on ships in the selection box in the bottom right corner to remove them. Or on the planetary summary.  Another random tidbit:

Single-click on a ship: selects it
Double-click on a ship: selects it and all ships of the same type AND mark
Triple-click on a ship: selects it and all ships of the same type, regardless of mark

It seems you need to hold CTRL to add, but your other tips are going to be something Ill try out, thank you!

Hold N+[num] where [num] is the number of the mark you'd like to select, and that'll restrict selections in another way.

So you can hold N+3 and drag a selection box and get "all mark 3 units."  You can also hold multiple numbers; N+1+2+3 would select everything mark 1-3

That reminds me, N+8 (holding down N and 8 at the same time) is an excellent selection filter too. That gives you only units below 1/3rd health. Very good for pulling all your damaged units back. N+9 is all units below 2/3rds health if you need that, but I use that much less often.
