I'm not sure if I read on DF forums about AI War or other way around...

I'm reading quite regularly but playing when things change or I fancy some AI War ;)

I think I discovered it a few years back, Browsing for Space combat games, picked up the demo, played for a while, and dropped it.

More reciently, I rediscovered it, and via one of steams insane (90% off I think) sales, I had no choice but to buy it and the expantions.

XD

Co-optimus for me as well.
Sure nice to have your game name begin with an "A".

A Good Tactic for indie games, so long as you don't take it too far... this is why I think game list should be randomised on the front page of any site, with letters-links to restore alphabetical order.

I frequent indie developer sites but disregarded the AI War ads for a while. At least, up until the when my partner and I started running out of games to play. :P He still plays Sins every one in a while.

I only came in in the 5-something version. I was searching the strategy section on Steam and found this along with a few other demos. I was initially hesitant, but then I saw that it had a Demo so I tried it and it quickly became one of my favorites. I played the suprisingly generous demo for a while until I bought the full game during a Steam Sale.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Though I hardly ever post, as my count clearly shows, I've been around here since the review of the game showed in pc gamer, shortly after it came out. Not sure exactly when that was, but was likely in the 1.x days. Been a fan ever since.

RPS, specifically this article: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/08/17/the-very-high-seas-ai-war-fleet-command/

I tried the game out and it was pretty clunky, and I almost didn't get it at first. I had just come away from Galactic Civilizations and I think Gratuitous Space Battles. The first one was complex, but stultifyingly dull, and I wasn't inspired by their so-called "no-DRM" policy that the lead dev and president was trumpeting to the very skies. Gratuitous Space Battles was like a super-fiddly version of Electric Football, but with none of the charm, and there was something about the developer that rubbed me the wrong way.

So here comes Chris Park with his big ideas, his "serial only" DRM and his actually interesting space battles, and I bought it a few days after reading a second article about the DRM scheme...

and more or less left it alone until it was ported to Unity and it finally started to feel like a real, finished game.

But, it was made by a developer who seemed to really care about his product and what the anal retentive I-used-to-own-my-games PC gamer demographic cared about , so it was worth the investment. Total payoff.

I don't care as much about DRM these days (all the better games eventually get released without it, so what's the rush?), but I still play AI War a few hours here and there. I just like seeing how it's evolving, responding to a few threats, dying pretty efficiently. I might even beat it one of these days.

Am I one of the few who actually came upon this by Googling terms like 'comp stomp' and such?  :p
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

Like many others, I came across AI War via Steam. I was looking for something to fill my 'Space Battle' craving and grabbed the game back in '09. The game intimidated me so badly I didn't touch it again until 2010.

That having been said I convinced several other friends to buy the game when it went on sale. We'd play more if Comodo wasn't so temperamental (causing one of the players to completely give up on the game, I might add).

Oh my. It is rather fortunate that there is no versus mode in AI war, lest I be cut down like wheat in a harvest. What shall I defend myself with?
...Ah yes, perhaps the new Area Mines would prevent my imminent demise while I make a quick getaway in a Raid Starship. :P

Come at me all ye like, sir. You know I'm right. :D

I found AI War on Impulse, before gamestop decided to take that over.  It seems so long ago, I had to have bought the game in the 1.x days.

It has been a long time since I've had a game keep my attention for this long, still haven't been able to convince my friends to play with but I just cry while I stomp a few systems with my 8 HW spire fleet and I feel a lot better.
