Hostile Dysons not loosing health on other planets?
« on: March 20, 2010, 05:38:40 am »
I just noticed that the friendly dysons are slowly dying, but the one hostiles to me do not (I took their system briefly to get the AI Ion cannon {in hind sight a poor chooise as the hostile dysons proved too many and killed my fleet}).

I attached a save.

From what I remember keith made the slow dying mechanism only for the allied dysons. All others are supposed to harass player normally :D

Yep, behavior is consistent with devious intent of programmer.

;)

Edit: and the "neutral" gatlings are supposed to slow-die too, should they ever leave the planet

If folks find them unbalanced-ly hard they can be nerfed (probably by making them also slow-die), I had just gotten the impression that they weren't overpowered as enemies, just annoying.

Alone they are not so bad, in packs of 10? They ripped my 600+ man fleet and 1 fortress easily :P.

This was somewhat early game, but I had mK III bombaers and fighters, and other units as well, not at max cap since I hade been fighitng a lot. They are indeed annoying, but also very powerful if you do not blob them and kill em quick.

Btw, I notice some wierd logic in them form time to time, like they have conflicting orders.

They would move a bit towards my WH, then a bit down, then towards my WH, then a bit down, almost like they where reciving new orders all the time (or ratehr, reciveing the two same order over and over again).

I have recently noticed this in my units in FRD mode as well; units head towards the enemy, then a bit bakc, then more towards teh enemy, then a bit back (and now no longer all the units engage in comabt in FRD mode)

My repair tugs take the Dyson Gatlings and bring them to the nearest MRS, where they take up a place for my own damaged ships! What a waste of scarce tugs! And what a waste of good ships, that could have been repaired.

I was lucky they came to one of my system that had a Radar Jammer Mk I, then I was able to semi pick them off one and one, at grat expance of my own units. Must have lost 1000 more units, and two more forts to them :P, but they finally died, and only frinldy dysons are left, and they help me out a bit better :p.

I do think that hostile dysons and neutrla dyson should loose health as well (I never got to see if the neutrals do it), but then again I am in favour of consistency, since they basically are the same unit, and since they do sapwn faster when hostile they actually are as much a threat to me as the frindlies are to the AI :P. (For some reason they like to clump up and go about in groups.)

I must have lost something to the tune of 300k m/c in spaceplanes to the Gatlings before I got my leech starship onto the field..
