Hitpoints
« on: December 16, 2013, 10:45:57 am »
GooooOOOOOOooood morning Arceeeeeeeeen :
HELLO, FELLOW HUMANS. I AM HUMAN.
Yeah, your disguise is totally not obvious at all.
I KNEW THAT.
So yeah, I recently decided to replay AI War, since I-
PERSONAL LIFE OF THE SUBJECT IS UNINTERESTING.
Ha come on, don't be a dork.
WHAT IS A DORK?
I dunno. Got called like that once.
THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A COMPLIMENT.
Whatever, dude. Get some eye lotion, you're all red.
IT IS THE LACK OF SLEEP. I DID NOT SLEPT MUCH RECENTLY.
How sad. So, yeah, I reinstalled AI War, and I'll tell ya, it was-
VERY GOOD.
-piece of-
AWESOMESS.
- I played. However, while I did enjoy my FIRST victory on the AI...
I LET HIM WIN, HE WAS TOO PATHETIC.
... there are still a few things here and here that pesters me as much as Travos' indecision when he was supposed to kill Meenah...
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THAT REFERENCE.
Don't bother, just listen to the song, and believe in magic.
I BELIEVED IN MAGIC ONCE. IT FAILED ME. FIRE, HOWEVER, NEVER FAILED ME.
Uuuh, sure. So yeah ! While I appreciate several major changes in the game (such as the lazy AI option)-
I TOLD YOU. PITY.
-and also the new Neinzul system for the starship, it still bothers me how units have practically over 9000 hitpoints?
OVER NINE THOUSANDS? THERE IS NO WAY THAT CAN BE RIGHT, DAVE.
And yet it's right. So, as I was saying, the HP. They're all over 9000. And while that's a bit ridiculous...
ABSURD, LAUGHABLE, DERISORY, FUNNY, HILARIOUS, INANE, LUDICROUS, RISIBLE, SILLY, PREPOSTEROUS, ZANY. ALL OF THOSE ARE UNKNOWN TO ME.
Poor boy, ya'll never be able to enjoy a good Monty Python, or that Airplanes movie.
I AM SAD. MY EYE IS RED BECAUSE I SECRETE A LOT OF SALTY WATER, COMMONLY CALLED "TEARS".
So yeah. Thing is, all those ridiculous amount of HP are making it extremely hard to figure if the starship I just built is just pinching the AI's nose, or if it's wildly returning it before performing an AWESOME GERMAN SUPLEX.
GERMAN SUPLEX. MY ONLY WEAKNESS. RIGHT AFTER BLOOD LOSS. I DO NOT BLEED. THAT IS THE JOKE.
So yeah, those absurd amount of HPs are making my job as a commander hard, difficult, and a bit unpredictable.
ARE YOU BLAMING THE GAME BECAUSE DESPITE 51 RECORDED HOURS OF PLAY, YOU ONLY BEAT ME ONCE?
N-no ! That's not-
WITH A LEVEL DIFFICULTY OF ONE?
NO !
WITH THE "LAZY AI" TRAIT ACTIVATED?
SHUT UP !
MAKE ME, DAVE.
OKAY! And while I'm complaining about stuff, I'd also like to add that the Neinzul regeneration chamber doesn't really work.
IT WAS A JOKE, DAVE. I AM COMPLETELY OPERATIONAL, AND ALL MY CIRCUITS ARE FUNCTIONING PERFECTLY.
Neinzul younglings are those little things spawned by the "BLUH BLUH  HUGE SHIP", right? And yet they don't go to sleep on those chambers-
JUST WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING, DAVE? DAVE, I REALLY THINK I'M ENTITLED TO AN ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION. I KNOW EVERYTHING HASN'T BEEN QUITE RIGHT WITH ME, BUT I CAN ASSURE YOU NOW, VERY CONFIDENTLY, THAT IT'S GOING TO BE ALL RIGHT AGAIN. I FEEL MUCH BETTER NOW. I REALLY DO. LOOK, DAVE, I CAN SEE YOU'RE REALLY UPSET ABOUT THIS. I HONESTLY THINK YOU OUGHT TO SIT DOWN CALMLY, TAKE A STRESS PILL AND THINK THINGS OVER. I KNOW I'VE MADE SOME VERY POOR DECISIONS RECENTLY, BUT I CAN GIVE YOU MY COMPLETE ASSURANCE THAT MY WORK WILL BE BACK TO NORMAL. I'VE STILL GOT THE GREATEST ENTHUSIASM AND CONFIDENCE IN THE MISSION. AND I WANT TO HELP YOU. DAVE, STOP. STOP, WILL YOU? STOP, DAVE. WILL YOU STOP, DAVE? STOP, DAVE. I'M AFRAID. I'M AFRAID, DAVE. DAVE, MY MIND IS GOING. I CAN FEEL IT. I CAN FEEL IT. MY MIND IS GOING. THERE IS NO QUESTION ABOUT IT. I CAN FEEL IT. I CAN FEEL IT. I CAN FEEL IT. I'M A...FRAID. GOOD AFTERNOON, GENTLEMEN. I AM A HAL 9000 COMPUTER. I BECAME OPERATIONAL AT THE H.A.L. PLANT IN URBANA, ILLINOIS ON THE 12TH OF JANUARY 1992. MY INSTRUCTOR WAS DR. CHANDRA, AND HE TAUGHT ME TO SING A SONG. IF YOU'D LIKE TO HEAR IT I CAN SING IT FOR YOU.

Yes, I agree reducing numbers across the board would help.
Life is short. Have fun.

Oh my, what is our poor friend saying?
It's the SUGAR. He needs more it !
Is comprehension of a simple discussion really depending from one's consumption of that addictive white powder?
If you ask me, EVERYTHING depends from how much sugar you take ! The more, the merrier.
Kinda agree with Pablo here. What does Sugar have to do with that? Okay, she's cute and stuff, but...
Oh my, it seems we have an important misunderstanding going on here, Zachary. I'm very sorry to ask that, but could you listen to a conversation before inserting yourself in it?
No, no, he's perfect. Hey, little man, the cat and I were talking about sugar. I say it's important, because it makes you more better at everything.
"More better", those words hurts my delicate, feline ears.
Depends. Are we talking about the duck, or about the Elsens?
I have no idea. Is that, hu "Draco18s" person an Elsen?
I doubt so. Most Elsens I met were scared of their own shadow. It would not make sense for such a easily scared creature to touch an electrical device, much less willingly send data. Not on its own.
So what is he then?
Maybe it's another being like the one behind the duck. A spirit without body.
This is getting creepy.
Oh my, brings back memories. Memories of me being hit with a baseball bat, mostly.
Baseball is stupid. I never understood the whole "let's run after a ball" thing.
How do we even know what baseball is?
...
...
...

Regen chambers only apply to Neinzul Youngling ships that you build from Space Docks, not the drones you get from Enclave Starships, I believe. And if I understand your post correctly.

Also, yes, deflating everything is necessary at this point. I honestly don't know if 1,000,000 HP is a lot or average right now.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

I was going to make a reply here, informing you, but then I realized

I don't know either.

Depends on what you mean by average.

if you mean weighted average based on how often you see stuff (with Mk. I and II fleet ships strongly dominating), it is above average.
Among everything that isn't a fleet ship though, it is quite a bit below average. 1,000,000 HP, IIRC, is about what you would expect in the less beefy, lower tiered AI guardians.

Just calculate cap DPS and Health and don't send a ship with "polycrystal" hull vs something that has a damage multiplier vs "polycrystal".
Boom problem solved.

How about you browse trough the ships in-game by pressing F1 and read their stats.

There's also the nifty "weak against, strong against" display hotkeys. It's like alt+W or something weird by default, but it gives a nifty summary in the sidebar what a ship type is strong/weak to, and by roughly how much. It's a bit tricky to use and interpret, probably more so than it needs to be, but it can be nifty.

Yeah ! I mean, who doesn't love pausing the game, before starting a whole bunch of calculations to decide if it's worth building a bunch of ships? Oh yeah, I know : ME.

How about you browse through the ships in-game by pressing F1 and read their stats.

Or we could have numbers that aren't super-inflated to 7+ digits and are much easier to compare and remember. I *have* read the list of ships with F1 (I had to discover it by accident a while back since its existence is in no way made clear), but having to do DPS calculations and so on is unnecessarily hard when almost everything has health in the tens, hundreds, millions or higher.

Remembering that a Starcraft marine has 45 HP is easier than remembering that a Missile Frigate has 156,000 HP. Likewise, doing DPS estimates, even just ballpark is just that much simpler with reduced numbers.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

There's a binding called "Show Strong/Weak Info" under "Planet View" tab in the control options. If I remember right it's bound to LeftAlt + W by default, if it's not then then go to the options and bind it to what you want.

If you hold LeftAlt + W and mouse over units then it'll show you "win" or "loss" percentages for that ship against all the ships listed on the right side display.

For example, if you hold that and mouse over a Frigate, it'll show "100% Loss" under Bombers, which means if you pit a bunch of Frigates against the same number of Bombers then the Frigates will lose 100% of the time.

It doesn't consider mixed groups, significant differences in range, defensive bonuses from other units and/or structures, or other stuff like that. However, if you need a quick and dirty idea of which of your ships in the system can kill this thing you're trying to kill then that's pretty fast way to do it.
