Steam Achievements?

Hi! I'm kinda new to these forums, and the game as well! First off, congratulations to x4000 on making the 2.o release such a success! I think releasing it on Steam was a great idea, because that's how I found about it! (Otherwise, no offense, I would of never known such an amazing game would have ever existed).

I've read a lot about the game, and I mean a lot. Your entire website, the differences between 1.0 and 2.0, your DRM views (which are in the right direction), and your beliefs and what you want to get out of this project. I like what ARCEN GAMES stands for! I just wanted you guys to know that!

Now, onto the question. On the Steam page, it doesn't list Steam Achievements as a feature. Does it really have Steam Achievements or not? If so, what are they or where can I find a list? I am running the demo so I'm not too sure if they are included or not. If so, would you be so kind to point me the right way?

Oh, actually another question. I read you'll be releasing DLC regularly. Will these also be released on Steam, and would it come as an autoupdate to the game core, or as a DLC addon? Thanks again!

Hi there,

Thanks for the kind words, and your enthusiasm for the game and the company!  Also, welcome to the forums if I didn't already say!

For the Steam achievements, yes those are there -- the standard 129 "offline" achievements are also included as Steam achievements online when you have the Steam version.  As is apparently common with Steam demos (according to Valve), the demo of AI War does not support online Steam Achievements.  To see the achievements, you can take a look here:  http://steamcommunity.com/stats/AIWar/achievements/  That also lets you see the online steam leaderboards, too.

For the DLC, those will appear on Steam as regular autoupdates, and will be coming around once a month or so.  All of the various "prereleases" on this forum are considered beta versions, and so only the monthly "official" versions make it to platforms such as Steam and Impulse.  The official versions contain all of the cumulative prerelease changes/additions, but just in a fully-tested and completed state.

Thank you for the quick reply! It is very rare to see the actual developer from a game, the creator of a game, answer an insignificant question from someone who hasn't even funded the project. Thank you so much, this means a lot.

I took a glance at the achievements, and I really want to plunk down the money for this game. I love trying to get achievements, for some odd, inane reason. Could be considered Passive Aggressiveness, maybe I want to make others feel bad when I get all 129 achievements?

To be honest, I want this game to continue growing, but something I want more to continue is the developer/customer/fanbase relationship to continue. That is something you only see in popular open sourced games, and I don't even think it's as good as this.

Thank you, now let me go check out the manual. I read somewhere something that sounded like defensive patrolling, and I've been wondering how to do that!

My pleasure!  And I do intend to keep an ongoing relationship with the fans and community members, even as the Arcen titles continue to grow in popularity.  I won't be able to be involved in every thread (even now), but I'll always be a presence around here.

To help other people who like achievements find the game, you should have that "129 Steam Achievements included" thing put on the right side of the store page like many other games on steam with achievements.

That's what I was talking about, on the right hand side that lists the game features and how's it tied with Steam, it does not list Steam Achievements as a feature and that's why I was wondering.
