  • Take five scout starships (and throw in two tach drones)
  • Line them up horizontally, with enough space for all the tachyon ranges to touch their neighbours
  • Go into formation move
  • COMB THE DESERT!

(Which derailed the topic into posting various quotes from Space Balls, but still a great technique)

While I'm quite proud of having been able to derail the thread so positively, I'm afraid I have to recant on those teachings of mine. My technique actually doesn't work for shit, since, as I recently realised, the SSs only have 750 tach range, which is just about useless if you don't already know where to search.

If one has sentinel frigates (preferably of high mark) it might work better.  But in general it's definitely "The Hard Way" (TM).

Ha.  Pay.  You're a funny guy.  At least you do get paid to put up with that kind of crap.  On the other hand, it's nice having the extra freedom to tell them to get lost when they're not paying customers, which you can't usually get away with so easily when it's your real job instead of something you're doing just for fun.

Depends on how much of a jerk someone is being. With a small tight knit community like this, telling some troublemaker to bugger off would probably be considered good customer service by most people here.  ;)

Yea, we don't really get serious conflicts here.  My recent grumblings are more due to the occasional person-who-doesn't-understand-how-many-many-many-hours-I've-poured-into-this and just opens up with a broadside against some feature (which I implemented because I thought it was a fun thing to have).  Over several months of AI-War-focus it just adds up to a quantity beyond my normal tolerance :)

Community-wise, sometimes someone coming in from the Greater Interwebs (or, worse, the WoW forums) will naturally continue to act as is normal on internet fora.  This isn't really their fault but it does pose a stark contrast to our usual mode of expression around here.  Generally they adapt fairly quickly :)
